The Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases has an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate 1.

Reports to Primary Investigators on assigned funded/unfunded research studiesDevelops and maintains reporting needs and/or other requirements as established by the IRB and the HIPAA officeReviews and administers informed consent forms to candidates for infectious diseases related studies.Maintains any reports and other requirements as required by the HSROInteracts with various agencies and their representatives on issues regarding future and on-going protocols requiring occasional visits to supporting agencies and national meetingsInvolved with patient recruitment and screening by conducting sampling research design in inpatient and outpatient settingsObtains necessary medical records and schedules patients for any research related visitMaintains a study patient list as required per protocolCoordinates research related activities, including scheduling of participants and administrative activities (invoicing and maintaining participant logs) at the Research UnitAssist with reporting to sponsorsSupervises other research personnel conducting research at the Research UnitKeeps track enrollment log regarding patients for paymentDevelops and manages the following procedures as they pertain to studies and patients:Completes patient data formsCollects results from outside laboratories and enters data into case report formsMaintains pool of study candidates and ensures their availabilityContacts patients as required by the PI for clinical follow-up of requirements and adherence to research protocolsReviews the medical chart for patient’s vital signs, including weight, temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure and any other data required on the case report formEnters data in case report form binders as neededCoordinates the necessary patient evaluations per physician’s orders and/or study protocol requirementsPerforms phlebotomy duties: blood drawn, preparation of specimens, shipping and transport to storage facilities:

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in biology or other related field.

Experience is not required.

Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office;

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and time-management skills; and a strong desire to learn.  

Seek self-motivated individual who is able to work both independently and as part of a collaborative research team and take direction from the Administrator and Faculty.

Excellent communication skills English (both verbal and written) required.

Bilingual English/Spanish highly preferred 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrate basic knowledge of pathophysiology and disease processes.Basic knowledge base for clinical research.Demonstrates the ability to access relevant clinical and relevant research information.Contribute to research activities and participate in the publication of significant results
