SUMMARY
The Research Associate 2 supports research activities under the direction of a principle investigator, program director or designee of the principle investigator or program director.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Performs specialized and complex experiments/studies.
2. Participates in the publication of significant research results.
3. Advances expertise through education, training, and research.
4. Writes extramural grants/proposals to gain support when appropriate.
5. Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens and tissue cultures.
6. Weighs and anesthetizes laboratory animals for experiments.
7. Operates sensitive and highly complex laboratory equipment.
8. Performs calculations to complete research test results.
9. Performs photography and dark room processing.
10. Participates in training sessions and workshops.
11. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
• Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.
• Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
Effective communication skills (both verbal and written)
Proficiency with statistical software packages, particularly SAS, SPSS, R and REDCap.
DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM
Department Specific Functions
Under the direction of the Core Director, the Research Associate will provide administrative and statistical support for the Biostatistics Collaboration and Consulting Center, within the Department Public Health Sciences. Collaborates with Biostatisticians with clinical and translation research on developing, implementing, and analyzing data for research studies.
Department Specific Qualifications
1. Develops study design and data analysis and or data management plans.
2. Analyzes, evaluates and reports on complex observation research data.
3. Prepares results for progress reports and presentations.
4. Prepares results for peer-reviewed publications and being a co-author on peer-reviewed manuscripts.
5. Maintains and documents the studies' databases.
6. Presents results of analysis to study investigators.
7. Consults with the study investigators on planning and specifying analytic approach and data structures.
8. Consults on data collection methods and quality control.
9. Provides problem solving support for barriers to analyses and consults with other methodologists and statisticians.
10. Supports BCCC leadership with administrative tasks.
11. Manage special projects as assigned by the Core Administrator and/or Director of BCCC (Core).
12. Ability to process and handle information provided by investigators with discretion.
13. Applies independent judgment in the completion of assignments, or projects which includes data analysis, data management and database development.
14. Exercises discretion and independent judgment in daily activities.
15. Work directly with Team members and provide independent judgment when managing or completing an assigned project/study.
16. Presents results of analyses to study investigators.
17. Maintain projects database and provides query reports for collaborative agreements.
18. Provide reports from REDCap’s datsabase.
19. Provides support to BCCC staff
20. Other duties as assigned.
