Duties and Responsibilities include:
Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting laboratory tests, experiments and determinations in support of Albany Medical College operations.
Confer regularly with principal investigator to review scientific direction and goals and develop plans for research experiments; design protocols and make modifications to existing laboratory procedures and techniques to meet the needs of the particular experiment as required.
Design and troubleshoot experiments to address key research question, seeking advice from the principle investigator as appropriate.
Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments. Maintain knowledge and expertise through regular reading of scientific literature.
Draft manuscripts documenting achieved research objectives. Assist in grant development and writing. Present findings at laboratory and center level venues.
Supervise work of lower level laboratory personnel with designated areas and take a lead role in training personnel.
Experience in conducting animal experiments with proficiency in handling mice, ensuring ethical standards and scientific accuracy in live model research and data collection.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a master's degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related scientific field or equivalent training and experience.
Five or more years of increasingly responsible experience conducting laboratory research.
A master's degree with a research thesis and/or resulting publications in peer-reviewed journals may be substituted for up to 2 years of laboratory experience.
A PhD degree with a research thesis and resulting publications may substitute for up to five years of experience.
