Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities

Study Maintenance Animal receipt and housingDose administration (ID, IP, SQ, IM, IV, IT, PO, etc.)Acquire and calculate food and water consumption dataAcquire and report body weight and clinical observation dataAllocation of study animalsBlood collection (cardiac puncture, vena cava, retro-orbital, submandibular)Animal Identification (, ear tag, microchip, etc.)Morbidity/Mortality checksReproductive indices (breeding, verification of sex, weaning, developmental landmark assessments, estrous cyclicity evaluation, etc.)Humane euthanasiaRodent necropsy (prosection, organ weights, blood collection, gross exams, etc.) Collection of samples in support of health surveillance programEnvironmental MaintenanceEnvironmental monitoring of animal rooms and equipmentChanging cages, feeders, water bottles, and racksWaste disposal (including hazardous, sharps)Sanitation as needed (sweeping, mopping, laundry, quarterly cleaning)Data ManagementData collection via Provantis softwareCreation and maintenance of study notebooks and study formsCreation of spreadsheets, entering and verification of data in spreadsheetsAdherence to all SOPs, policies and GLPs as required

Additional Responsibilities

Commitment to humane care of research animals in all actionsDevelop proficiency in new techniques, as neededAttendance at required meetings and trainingAssist in animal husbandry duties as neededWork in a team environment with a professional and positive attitudeOther duties as needed Qualifications

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

Education:H.S. diplomaA.S. degreeB.S. degreeExperience:> 3 years in Toxicology or related field> 2 years in Toxicology or related field0 -1 years in Toxicology or related fieldSkills:Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor, peers, and Study DirectorsExhibit personal accountability and accept responsibility for study conductAbility to perform detailed and accurate data collection and recordkeepingAbility to utilize moderate computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, Provantis)Certification: AALAS certification at ALAT level preferred

Working Environment

Primarily laboratory/animal facility (respirator, safety glasses, lab coat, shoe covers, head cover, and gloves, as needed) with infrequent heavy lifting ( > 50 pounds)Use of hazardous substancesOccasional office workOccasional weekend, holiday, and evening work required

 

*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience.  The salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person’s relevant experience and/or education level.
