The selected candidate will support all R&D functions in the launch of molecular diagnostic assays into a clinical laboratory from assay development and validation to implementation and troubleshooting. This position will also involve collaborations on multi-disciplinary teams as well as with other technical, non-technical, and clinical groups throughout Labcorp to support a variety of research areas as they apply to molecular testing. Experience in next-generation sequencing would be a plus.
Responsibilities
Provide technical support regarding design, development, and validation of complex assays Critically analyze, interpret and summarize data Maintain detailed, organized documentation of all data in laboratory notebooks Draft reports and summaries for supervisory reviewTrain clinical personnel (technologists, supervisors, directors, QA) on assays and provide troubleshooting support including any additional experimentation and/or data re-analysisEvaluate commercial products for applicability in a clinical lab settingKeep abreast of current literature pertinent to the project or departmental areas of interestSupport routine lab activities, e.g. maintaining lab equipment, ordering/receiving suppliesPerform other duties as assignedRequired Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or related field and at least 2 years relevant lab experience in Research and Development (or equivalent experience), or completion of Labcorp Internship in Research and Development within the last 6 months.Strong hands-on skills in next-generation sequencing methodologies and knowledge of data handling and analysis tools preferred; familiarity with basic statisticsStrong technical skills and understanding of molecular biology techniques, i.e., PCR, qPCR, MLPA, Sanger sequencingProficient in webtools and databases for molecular assay design (NCBI Genome Variation Viewer, UCSC Genome Browser, Primer3).Strong documentation, organization, and critical thinking skillsAbility to work under tight deadlines with minimal to moderate supervision in a dynamic, collaborative environmentExcellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skillsPreferred Qualifications
