Research Coordinator

You will be employed under the supervision of Dr. Diwakar Davar in the Fecal Microbiome Transplantation (FMT) Lab. Your duties will include:

Identification of suitable patients for enrollment in FMT Lab sample banking protocols through interactions with clinical staff in melanoma and cutaneous malignancy, thoracic, genito-urinary and other disease-specific teams at Hillman Cancer Center (HCC).Consenting suitable patients to FMT Lab sample banking protocols in the in- and/or out- patient settings at HCC and UPMC ShadysidePeriodic collection of samples (microbiome, tumor, blood and dietary history) from patients consented to FMT Lab sample banking protocols.Periodic collection of samples from patients consented to Dr. Davar’s clinical trials.

Performing basic experiments under the supervision of trained post-doctoral associates:

o This will include but is not limited to ELISA, Western blot, flow cytometry, DNA/RNA extraction on samples (microbiome, tumor, blood and dietary history).

o Processing of blood, tumor and/or stool specimens.

Creation and maintenance of a database to log samples banked under MSR lab sample banking protocols to share with other MSR users.Database should include relevant metadata from patient samples.Participation in regular meetings with Dr. Davar and MSR members.Preparation of reports and manuscripts for publication as co-author or sole author.

Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.

High level of attention to detail, proficiency in basic duties related to lab work, and competency is written and verbal communication.
