R&D - PaperMaking & structural mechanics
CAREER OPPORTUNITY
The Paper making and Structural Mechanics R&D group at the Smurfit Westrock Richmond, VA location has exciting Internship/co-op opportunities for engineering students. The Intern/co-op will be expected to complete a meaningful project, will be involved in team projects, and will have opportunities to learn about industrial R&D, paperboard production, and packaging. The work will be closely tied to business needs.
HOW YOU WILL IMPACT SMURFIT WESTROCK
Contribute to the development of innovative evaluation methods for paper making, paperboard mechanics, and package performance. This will involve a literature review and reporting of results (written and oral) and can involve 3D modeling and printing, numerical analysis, test method development, pilot equipment design and fabrication, and experiment planning and trials.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
Rising juniors and seniors pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering, material science, or paper science & engineering. It requires scientific knowledge, hands-on skills, and the ability to analyze and report results. Coursework and experience in physical testing, mechanical drafting, presentation, and report writing are valuable.
