Minnesota Housing is hiring! We’re a mission-focused financial institution looking for two (2) students for internships this summer for the 30 th year. This internship is a great opportunity for students to get hands-on experience learning how state government operates and working at the intersection of program administration, public policy research, and data-driven, evidence-based decision making. **_This internship will last about 12 weeks during the summer with flexible start and end dates from May through August._** **Essential Job Duties** The summer interns carry out independent research projects under the supervision of Minnesota Housing staff with a formal written report as the final product. Some projects have also included presentations to Agency staff and leadership, This summer’s research projects are: + Research, document and evaluate the support Minnesota Housing has provided Tribal nations over the last 13 years, with a focus on the outcomes and effectiveness of the Agency’s Tribal Indian Housing Program (TIHP). An overview of the program’s history was done in 2012, and this report will update that work and assess impact. One of Minnesota Housing’s strategic objectives is supporting Tribal Nations and Indigenous communities. + Research, document and evaluate how rental properties that receive Minnesota Housing funding have implemented the Agency’s guidelines for Tenant Screening Plans (TSPs). Property owners/managers use the plans to select the people with whom they will rent. The plans cover background checks, credit reports, employment and income verification, rental history, etc. and can create barriers to accessing housing. Minnesota Housing is committed to creating equitable, affordable, and accessible housing for all Minnesotans. Tenant Selection Plans and tenant screening criteria that reduce barriers to access are critical to these efforts. Each intern will be assigned one of the two listed projects and may also have a smaller research project assigned to them. These are full-time (40 hours per week) positions for the summer. Interns do not receive benefits. **Minimum Qualifications** **To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. Ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.** **Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for this position.** + **Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in public policy, government, political science, sociology, economics, urban and regional planning, statistics, or research & evaluation** + **– OR –** + **Enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate educational program in the above fields or plan to enroll within three months.** + **Experience in research and evaluation, including quantitative and qualitative analysis.** + **Demonstrated ability to work independently.** + **Strong writing skills.** + **Cultural competency as demonstrated by skills for communication and interaction across cultures and awareness of one’s own world view and that different world views exist.** **Preferred Qualifications** + **Currently pursuing a graduate degree in public policy, government, law, political science, sociology, economics, urban and regional planning, statistics, or research & evaluation.** + **Demonstrated knowledge of affordable housing issues.** + **Experience working with large datasets and carrying out statistical analyses (applies to some projects, but not all).** + **At least one year of full-time professional experience between college and graduate school or during graduate school.** + Our employees are dedicated to ensuring cultural responsiveness.
