Research Intern -- Health Services & Outcomes Rsc -- CHERI Building

Job Summary

To provide project and faculty research support under the direction of a senior research mentor from the Center for Health Services and Outcomes Research and project Principal Investigator. To engage in research internship opportunities that foster the growth of clinical research within the Institute for Academic Medicine while receiving research education and recognition for exemplary scholarly work.

Responsibilities

Administrative/Regulatory 5% •To learn how to conduct assigned research consistent with regulatory requirements including but not limited to formal research subject protection training and ongoing learning. •To become familiar with aspects of the research processes through educational and observation activities (IRB/ISRB) and others. •To become familiar with research regulatory requirements related to exempt, expedited and full board research approvals. Research Study Management/Research Education 90% • Process and organize new research-related information and data in the form of literature reviews on research topics, writing and presenting summaries of reviews consistent with professional writing requirements, become familiar with each step of the research process as guided by the mentor and PI. •Assist with protocol development/review with the intent on enhancing knowledge related to research design, objectives, sample size estimations, and the subsequent hypothesis and research questions derived from such activities related to assigned project(s). •Assist with informed consent and subject/patient enrollment if applicable to assigned studies(s). •Collect data, as needed, from the medical record or other assigned source, populate data using a variety of data management tools. Review, verify, and clean data. Prepare study progress reports, graphs or tables as needed. •Interface with research staff by participating in activities related to understanding data analysis and interpretation process specifically related to skill enhancements in terms of understanding statistical methodologies related to assigned project(s). •Complete a minimum of 1-2 assigned projects, prepare those for either an internal or external presentation and draft a manuscript during the course of the 10–12-month internship. •Attend research team meetings, participate in research education forums and other educational opportunities as assigned by the senior research staff mentor. •Provide a bi-monthly progress report to the Director. •Recommend attending grand rounds, departmental didactics/educational forums, journal clubs and quality improvement meetings interfacing with residents, faculty and other learners in the environment as appropriate to the individual and approved by the department. •The time-period could be renewed for an additional 12 months based on the needs of Institute, performance of the intern and needs of the intern.

Education

 Graduate of MD/DO program or international equivalent.
