Posting Number NONAC3521 Job Title Research Lab Manager Position Title Research Lab Manager Position Type Non-Faculty Number of vacancies 1 Salary Department Sponsored Rsch Admin Position Summary Position Summary The Department of Community Health and Preventive Medicine at Morehouse School of Medicine is looking for a talented Research Lab Manager. The position will be based in the laboratory of the Senior Vice President, Research. This Research Lab Manager will participate in exciting collaborative research projects that will assess, evaluate and ultimately associate human genetic ancestry/variation as it may impact drug response and potential impact on disease outcomes.     Under the supervision of the Senior Vice President, Research, the Research Lab Manager will perform:   Oversees development and integrity of data collection and instruments.  Conducts ongoing, periodic and final analyses of data, using specialized techniques and programming.  Plans, coordinates, and optimizes general and scientific needs of a laboratory. Interprets rules, regulations, and policies for faculty and laboratory staff and ensures compliance.  Coordinates procurement of equipment and supplies and manages all stages of the acquisition cycle.  Establishes procedures for the use of laboratory equipment including maintenance, repair, and inventory. May conduct laboratory research with Principal Investigators as opportunities are available. 


Position Summary and Key Responsibilities:

Skill in performing standard procedures for basic laboratory tasks such as weighing, measuring, cleaning, and recording data. Ability to organize and maintain records, organizes work effectively, and participates in a variety of tasks. Skill in the use of computers and various software packages including Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations. Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related institutional policies and procedures.  Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Knowledge of and ability to apply established laboratory procedures and safety practices. Ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipment.

Generally, interacts with others to analyze information/data, provide advice, opinions, and counsel utilizing problem solving skills.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

May supervise other employees within the department.
Minimum Qualifications Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.  2-4 years of related research/laboratory experience. Ability to work independently and as a part of research team. High motivation and desire to be part of multidisciplinary group. Under minimal direction, performs and coordinates a wide range of research procedures and conducts a variety of complex support tasks and projects determined by  Senior Vice President, Research. Cleans glassware and other laboratory equipment or materials using appropriate standards; keep the laboratory area clean. Complete all documentation associated with lab safety and operations, coordinate lab inspections. Perform clerical tasks such as filing, typing, labeling and billing; inventory and requisition of lab supplies and materials. Willingness and availability to provide hands-on training to students and lab interns. Maintain research data in laboratory notebooks and prepare summary reports. Perform basic repair and troubleshooting of experiments and/or scientific equipment.
