Research Lab Tech III

The Center for Craniofacial Molecular Biology (CCMB) at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC is a premier research institute located at the Health Sciences Campus of the University of Southern California. CCMB conducts cutting-edge research in developmental, biochemical, and molecular biological aspects of human health, with a special emphasis on craniofacial structures in both health and disease. Our research is funded by numerous federal and organization-sponsored grants, including the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR).

CCMB is seeking a highly motivated Research Lab Tech III to lead research operations within our dynamic lab environment. The individual in this role will plan, conduct, and supervise complex research experiments in accordance with established laboratory and safety protocols. They will oversee research technicians, student workers, and lab personnel, ensuring that the lab functions efficiently while upholding the highest standards in research methodologies.

This role involves independent execution of complex research procedures, modification and adaptation of laboratory equipment, and maintaining precise experimental records. The successful candidate will also provide data analyses, contribute to publications, and ensure compliance with research regulations.

Key ResponsibilitiesSupervise laboratory personnel, including research staff and student workers. Assist in hiring, training, performance evaluations, and employee guidance.Plan and conduct complex research experiments, ensuring adherence to laboratory protocols.Analyze and interpret experimental data, providing reports and insights for ongoing research projects.Maintain and troubleshoot sophisticated laboratory and scientific equipment, ensuring accurate and efficient research execution.Modify, adapt, and develop new procedures and methodologies for specific research needs.Manage lab inventory, order equipment and supplies, and liaise with vendors to support funded research projects.Prepare chemical solutions, reagents, and other experimental materials as needed.Stay updated with current research advancements to contribute to experimental planning and innovation.Ensure compliance with university safety protocols, emergency response procedures, and mandated reporting requirements.Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g., Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related disciplines).Three (3) years of experience in a research laboratory setting.Strong expertise in scientific equipment operation and complex laboratory procedures.Advanced knowledge of research methodologies, data analysis, and equipment troubleshooting.Ability to work independently and supervise lab personnel effectively.

Preferred:

Master’s degree in a relevant field.Experience in craniofacial biology, molecular genetics, or biomaterials research.Knowledge of lab management, grant-funded research, and compliance regulations.

The hourly rate range for this position is $30.29 - $32.30.
