Description

The laboratory of Dr. Alison Swaims-Kohlmeier at Emory University is recruiting a Laboratory Research Manager to oversee its operations on multiple projects involving women’s health immunology. The position will involve hands-on cellular immunology research using human samples and animal models of the menstrual cycle. Standard skills required for this position in our laboratory include independent proficiency in isolating DNA and performing PCR from tissues, calculating and preparing chemical buffers and reagents for isolation of immune cell from tissues. Experience with in-vitro cell culture techniques including cell plaque assays is also preferred. Additional responsibilities include assistance with day-to-day operations of the lab, regulatory compliance, and training laboratory personnel. The ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team is essential.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Supervises staff (generally ten or more employees) in a large and/or complex research laboratory. Responsible for administrative, financial, staffing and planning aspects of research. Organizing and formalizing the laboratory standard operating procedures, reagent and equipment storage, and specimen inventories.Designs instrumentation, theoretical models, equipment and other vehicles for data gathering and analysis. Designs and applies scientific and numerical models in research. Oversees development and integrity of data collection and instruments. Conducts on-going, periodic and final analyses of data, using specialized techniques and programming. Writes and collaborates with other researchers on manuscripts, abstracts and other publications of research findings. Collaborates with other researchers on long-range plan for overall research. Performs related responsibilities as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in a scientific field (microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, or related field preferred); related master's degree preferred. Five years of professional research experience; laboratory experience and familiarity with modern immunology, Bacteriology, and/or molecular biology techniques experience preferred. Three years of supervisory experience.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
