Job Summary

Dedicated and hard-working research assistant/technician sought to help with biomedical research aimed at understanding 1) The role of stem cells in skin/hair follicle development and wound healing, and 2) The molecular basis of skin cancer associated with reactivation of embryonic signaling pathways. This individual will play a primary role assisting with research using various cell culture and mouse models, will help with the day-to-day operations needed to run an active research lab, and will also participate directly in experimental studies. This individual will be an integral part of a busy lab, so outstanding communication skills, careful attention to detail, and exceptional organizational skills are essential. This is an entry level position.

Responsibilities*

Culturing mouse-derived skin cells in vitro. Breeding and maintaining multiple transgenic mouse lines. Skin sampling, DNA isolation, and PCR-based genotyping to identify transgenic mice. Mouse monitoring for tumor development and other endpoints. Harvesting mouse organs and tumors for analysis. Cutting sections from paraffin-embedded or frozen tissue. Maintaining and replenishing various lab stock items. Preparation of shipments for collaborators. Detailed record keeping. Ability and willingness to occasionally work after hours, if needed. Immunofluorescence analysis of tissue sections. RNA isolation and analysis (R-PCR, real-time PCR). Protein extraction, electrophoresis, and western blotting, primary cell culture (mouse epidermal cells and fibroblasts). Cryopreservation and recovery of cell lines.

Required Qualifications*Bachelor's degree. Familiarity with basic lab techniques and principles related to molecular and/or cell biology. Basic lab skills; good organization; meticulousness and high work ethic. Outstanding communication skills.Modes of Work
