Research & Project Specialist
Job Description The New York City Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD) invests in a network of community-based organizations and programs to alleviate the effects of poverty and to provide opportunities for New Yorkers and communities to flourish. Reporting to the Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff, the Research & Project Specialist will provide project and administrative support as follows: Project Support -Provide project management support and follow up on special projects and priorities defined by the Commissioner and other senior staff. These include -- and are not limited to: - Pilot projects and initiatives such as community center redesign and beautification; creating career pathways for justice involved individuals interested in youth services and education careers; STEAM curriculum for afterschool programs. - Co-locating DYCD funded programs in city owned or financed buildings. - Collaborating with city agency partners as well as external partners. - Programs that expose youth and young adults to emerging employment sectors through internships, training, and career awareness events. -Conduct research and analysis on public policy, program models, and best practices relevant to youth services, youth workforce development programs, community centers, family support services, green jobs, anti-poverty programs, public safety and gun violence prevention initiatives, and civic engagement. -Support agency efforts at conducting spatial analysis of DYCD funded programs and socioeconomic data, using geographic information system (GIS) software. -Attend meetings with the Chief of Staff or Deputy Chief of Staff, and other senior staff when necessary. -Provide additional project support, as assigned by the Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, or other senior staff as necessary. Administrative Support -Schedule and manage meetings on behalf of the Chief of Staff or Deputy Chief of Staff and assist in any meeting follow-up. -Manage clerical responsibilities, including preparing meeting materials, and organizing computer files. -Provide additional administrative support, as assigned by the Chief of Staff or Deputy Chief of Staff. Qualifications 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or 2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or 3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
