Research Protein Scientist

The University of Pittsburgh, Ophthalmology department in the Betegon Lab (https://betegonlab.org) and Byrne lab ((https://byrnelab.science) at are seeking a research scientist to work on the development of novel AAV technologies.

The candidate must have a PhD in biophysics, biochemistry, biology, structural biology, or related field. Demonstrated and extensive experience with protein expression in bacterial or mammalian cells and FPLC protein purification is required for this position, as is experience with in-vitro protein assays and basic molecular biology techniques including molecular cloning. Experience in protein engineering and with in-vitro reconstitution of biological systems is highly desirable. Previous experience working with AAV is not required.

Conducts independent scientific research projects from inception to presentation. Prepares and crafts various documentations of research results into manuscripts, proposals, grant applications, and presentations. Trains undergraduates and research technicians. Manages laboratory policies and coordinates project development in collaboration with other specialists.
