The Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center (CVRC) at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine is currently seeking a Research Scientist (post-doctoral research fellow), MD or PhD, to work and study in an NIH-funded laboratory directed by Dr. Brant Isakson. The laboratory has long-standing interests in intercellular communication within the vasculature, from the molecular up to whole animal level, including translational endeavors. The lab uses a vast array of techniques and specialized mouse lines. Current studies focus on the cell biology and physiology of endothelial iron regulation which is an active area of research we would like to recruit to.
The incumbent will participate in a multiplicity of relevant lab projects and in writing study reports for the study sponsors, papers, and grant applications and is expected to develop research programs as time permits. The incumbent will also be expected to attend and participate in laboratory meetings and CVRC-related seminars, as well as work with graduate students, technicians, fellows and collaborators in the laboratories involved in the project.
Job responsibilities include:
Full-time research or scholarship at the University
Preparatory for a full-time academic or research career
Supervised by a senior scholar; and allows the appointee to publish the results of his/her research or scholarship
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Doctoral degree at the time of hire.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of prior postdoctoral experience in murine models of anemia and chronic kidney disease, and knowledge on blood flow and vascular function.
Physical demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
This is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. This position will sponsor applicants for work visas. This position is located in Charlottesville, Virginia. The position will remain open until filled.
