Research Scientist
Description: The Research Scientist performs research design and management for the Office of Research and Innovation in the College of Engineering. The position responsibilities include proposal development, research surveys and research administration tasks, post-doc/student advisement, industry collaborations, and laboratory operations. The candidate will conduct scientific research by designing and executing experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and publishing their findings to contribute to new knowledge and understanding in the advanced manufacturing field, while working with academic institutions and government agencies, or private companies. Thus, they will support the Office of Research and Innovation’s work of solving engineering and scientific problems through rigorous investigation. The Research Scientist reports to the Associate Dean of Research. Key activities include: + Focus on discovery: Their primary goal will be to expand engineering and scientific knowledge by asking questions, forming hypotheses, and testing them through research. + Experimentation: They will design and carry out experiments in a lab or industry setting for digital transformation at the College of Engineering. + Data analysis: They will collect, record, and analyze data from their experiments to draw conclusions and interpret results that span different areas of advanced manufacturing. + Publication and communication: They will be publishing research papers in scientific journals and presenting their work at conferences. · Inventory Management: Monitor and order research supplies, equipment and conduct inventory management. · Program Oversight: Other related tasks to progress the research enterprise for the college of engineering including coordinating research agendas, meetings, forums, workshops, conferences with A&T partners. · Collaboration: Act as a liaison with academic institutions, national labs, industry, and community partners Primary Function of Organizational Unit: North Carolina A&T State University is a public, doctoral high research land-grant University that enrolls over 14,000 students. Requirements: + Ph.D. in Industrial/Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering or related disciplines. + A strong theoretical and experimental background with evidence of skills in advanced manufacturing + Excellent skills in writing scientific papers and technical reports. Preferred: + Four years or more of research experience as a postdoctoral scholar or equivalent + Exceptional publication record. + Ability to convene research groups and coordinate large-scale research projects. + Experience with equipment/instrumentation installation, inventory management and order fulfillment.
