The Department of Pharmacology and the Molecular Genetics Resource Core within the Center for the Neurobiology of Addiction, Pain, and Emotion has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist Engineer 1 to working with lab researchers to develop Adeno-Associated Viruses for CRISPR/Cas9 mutagenesis and optogenetic studies in mouse models of neuropsychiatric disorders.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** Research Activities 70%
+ Develop of reagents related to DNA mutagenesis and in the validation of these methods.
+ Design methodological approaches for manipulating gene expression in the central nervous system of mice.
+ Analyze data related to DNA mutagenesis.
+ Assist with general molecular genetics methods in support of ongoing projects.
+ Assist with documentation for protocols and datasets.
+ Perform DNA purification and viral vector production.Compliance, and Other Related Duties 30%
+ Provide lab support for working with institutional animal use and care committee.
+ Ensuring compliance with Environmental Health and Safety.
+ Provide assistance with training and onboarding of new personnel.
+ Procurement of reagents and tracking supplies.
+ Maintain a clean and sterile working environment.
+ Maintain equipment and work with facilities or vendors for equipment procurement and repairs. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
+ Bachelor’s degree in a related field and one year of experience in pipetting, centrifugation, plasmid purification, and cloning into plasmids **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.** **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
+ Experience with making basic chemical solutions,
+ PCR experience,
+ Experience with cell culturing,
+ Data management experience
+ Demonstrated organizational skills **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
+ Degree in Molecular biology related to plasmid cloning and production.
+ Experience in PCR for amplification of targeted genes.
+ Experience in cell culture including cell transfection.
+ Experience in design of CRISPR/Cas9 guides for gene targeting.
