The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) maintains an internationally recognized research program with three research areas (operations, applied statistics and production systems, and human factors and ergonomics) and research applications in health care, transportation and manufacturing). **The Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering has an outstanding opportunity for a** **_Temporary_** **Research Scientist/Engineer 1 position.**
The Research Scientist/Engineer 1, will support the research programs with in the ISE department. Area of application: Cybersecurity, Human factors, Data Analytics and optimization methods. The successful candidate will assist and help support collaborations with industry, assist in developing technical reports for projects. The hired person will also support graduate students, monitor project activities, maintain confidentiality of data, manage the facilities for all the department labs, and interact regularly with the technical and administrative points of contact of the sponsoring organization.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** Assist in research, including engineering design, experimentation, knowledge dissemination (60%)
+ Report the research progress to the supervisor regularly and as needed.
+ Assist in developing research reports, assist in making presentations for scientific conferences, and assist in preparation of manuscripts for publications in scientific journals.
+ Will search online for potential external funding opportunities relevant to the research programs for the department.
+ Assist in editing written proposals.
+ Contribute to data analysis by performing basic data quality control and statistical analysis, edit written reports, and contribute to planning follow-up experiments.
+ Generate reports summarizing data collection activities, findings, and recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.Facilities management and laboratory activities: (30%)
+ Assist in coordinating project activities with other team members to meet the project milestones.
+ Collaborate with the Operations Manager and other Research Scientists, act as a point of contact for facility users to initiate projects, determine scope and resource needs, and carry to completion.
+ Assisting the development of research infrastructures and laboratory spaces. Partner with Research Scientists with communicating with external users interested in using ISE Facility resources.
+ Provide support to graduate students, visiting scholars and others.
+ Organize group meetings and Interact and collaborate across the university.
+ Coordinate equipment shipping, asset tracking, and retrieval for as needed.
+ Assist in data collection efforts with research team.
+ Update lab’s websites.Other duties as assigned by the supervisor (10%) **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
+ Bachelor’s degree in STEM, informatics, or related and 1 year of engineering, research lab, or research experience. **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.** **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - ability to interact with laboratory personnel and external customers.
+ Demonstrate high organizational skills and have knowledge of laboratory working environments. **DESIRED EXPERIENCE**
+ Experience in research lab and facilities maintenance.
+ BS level training in STEM related fields.
+ Experience with website - Drupal.
+ Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, Canva, and computer programming language (eg Python, R) and GitHub.
