The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia invites applications for a Research Scientist, who is excited about the opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative research environment. This position will be in the lab of Professor Linda Columbus.
The Research Scientist will work as part of a team of scientists to investigate membrane protein structure, function, and dynamics with biochemical and biophysical approaches. Responsibilities will also include mentoring of students and general managerial duties for the lab. The Research Scientist will publish their findings in high impact, peer-reviewed journals and be co-inventors on patents related to their work.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A Ph.D. degree in Biophysics, Chemistry or a related discipline is required by the appointment start date. Significant, relevant experience in research, mentoring, and general lab management following the PhD is highly desirable. The candidate must have effective oral and written communication skills. The candidate must have advanced knowledge of membrane protein structure and function. The candidate is also expected to have expertise in one or more methods used to investigate membrane protein structure. The successful candidate is also expected to help mentor undergraduates and graduate students in the laboratory.
