Job Summary
University Information and Technology is seeking a Research Software Engineer 3. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ),12-month, professional faculty position.
As a Research Software Engineer 3 (RSE3), you will play a pivotal role in advancing our AI/ML and Digital Twin projects. You will collaborate closely with researchers to design, develop, and implement cutting-edge software solutions that drive innovation and enhance our digital infrastructure. Your expertise in machine learning, modeling, and statistical methods will be crucial in developing robust algorithms and models. Additionally, you will leverage your proficiency in GPUs and GPU -based software applications to optimize performance and ensure scalability. Your ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, plan and implement project specifications, and report project status will be essential in driving the success of our initiatives. Although we have AI/ML hardware now, we are receiving a new GPU supercomputer in 2026, and your work will be instrumental in upskilling our researchers to utilize this new resource.
In this role, you will also be responsible for performing data analysis in a Linux environment and utilizing your strong coding and debugging skills to develop high-performance AI cluster solutions. You will work with contemporary workflow management systems and cloud-native architectures to streamline processes and enhance efficiency. Your hands-on experience with Omniverse and the development of Digital Twins will be instrumental in creating realistic simulations and improving decision-making processes. By collaborating with various colleges at OSU , including the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences ( CEOAS ), Agriculture, and Forestry, you will ensure that our projects are aligned with organizational goals and deliver exceptional value to our stakeholders.
The position is housed in University Information & Technology and reports directly to the Associate Director of Advanced Research Computing Services.

Key Responsibilities
Engagement & Support (50%)
+ Partner with faculty, students, and staff to leverage OSU’s Supercomputer in the HCIC . Work with research groups to help strategize, streamline, and implement optimized AI/ML workflows on the current GPU cluster and test machines.
+ Enhance communication with the researchers about technology in support of their research. Forecast and anticipate the need for new HPC technologies and services. Build deep understanding with specific research activities through regular engagements.
Strategic Vision & Research Development (25%)
+ Help define and deploy a comprehensive scientific Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning vision for researchers by engaging in research and authoring/co-authoring papers and research grants.
+ Assist in developing and writing proposals to enhance the research enterprise at OSU .
Education & Training (15%)
+ Develop and deliver short seminars and hands-on training sessions to help researchers effectively use the research computing environment in their work.
Documentation & Communication (10%)
+ Prepare technical documentation for work products of project.
What You Will Need
Master’s degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience;ora Bachelor’s degree and four years of relevant experience.
Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. In addition, domain research experience in a STEAM field of 2 years or more.
+ Proficiency in the areas of GPUs and GPU -based software applications; machine learning, modeling, measurement techniques, testing, and statistical methods.
+ Proficiency in programming languages, methodologies, and API frameworks, such as Infrastructure as Code, REST , Python, R, or Java.
+ Experience porting and/or optimization scientific applications targeting GPUs
+ Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, plan and implement project specifications, report project status, and identify delays or resource shortages.
+ Performing data analysis in a Linux environment, ideally RedHat Enterprise Linux, CentOS Linux, or Ubuntu.
What We Would Like You to Have
+ PhD in a STEAM field.
+ Strong coding and debugging skills, with demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Slurm, Docker/Kubernetes, Singularity, MPI , MLOps (including LLMOps), Ansible, Terraform, or other high-performance AI cluster solutions.
+ Proven experience with one or more Tier-1 Clouds ( AWS , Azure, GCP or OCI ) and cloud-native architectures and software.
+ Hands-on experience with Omniverse and development of Digital Twins.
+ Parallel programming for shared memory (threads, OpenMP) and distributed memory ( MPI , CUDA ).
+ Programming experience in compiled languages (e.g., C, C++, FORTRAN ). Contemporary workflow management systems such as Nextflow or Snakemake; Contemporary web application frameworks, deployment, and CI.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
This position will be based in one of our Corvallis OR offices and may include a hybrid schedule of 3 days in the office, and 2 days remote. (We would consider remote work for exceptionally qualified candidates on a case-by-case basis.)
