DescriptionKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Independently performs a wide range of highly technical and complex research and laboratory tests and procedures. Devises highly specialized research procedures by applying a knowledge of advanced research techniques and equipment. Provides input to protocol development. Serves as a technical resource for other research personnel. Analyzes and interprets the results of studies. Investigates and recommends alternative approaches to improve the quality of results. Trains research staff in specialized procedures and theoretical concepts for unique tests. Recommends new equipment and supplies needed for specialized procedures. Provides input into the development of departmental goals and objectives. May assist in grant and other funding application preparation. Review literature for related research developments and techniques. Prepares written materials, charts and graphs on specialized techniques and research results for publication or presentation. Oversees quality assurance of research performed by others. Monitors the handling, storage and disposal of hazardous substances. Performs related responsibilities as required. Conducts experiments/projects independently under overall direction of the PI and/or more senior scientist.Develops new research protocols, techniques and procedures.
Identifies experimental data pertinent to the analysis problem. Processes, organizes and summarizes data, reporting these experimental results. Monitors quality and integrity of recorded information and data. Ensures data collection and entry methods meet quality standards. Interprets data as it relates to research problem.
Laboratory techniques and procedures to include wet-lab experiments as expected in a basic science cancer research lab, as well as maintenance of mouse colony, and is able to work with murine models of leukemia, including but not limited to mouse breeding, mouse euthanasia, IV tail injection, IP injections, oral gavage, and other tasks related to these models.
May publish as co-author and/or draft sections of research manuscripts as necessary. Presents research to colleagues within the organization or at external meetings/events.
Provides lab operation support and makes recommendations regarding equipment use and maintenance, supplies, etc. Troubleshoots instrument and equipment issues. Provides input into lab operation processes and procedures. Recommends equipment acquisition and decommissioning.
Regularly trains and oversees the work of others in laboratory techniques and procedures.
Maintain a thorough knowledge of the research studies and procedures.
May coordinate the activity and experimental design between various labs, scientific staff, and collaborators. Identifies and resolves technical problems.
May develop protocol for the collection and quality of research data.
May be responsible research/lab quality control and compliance.
Ensures timely and accurate completion of research projects.
Develops new ideas that promote current research. Exercises a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in planning, organizing, and guiding extensive scientific research programs and activities of outstanding novelty and/or importance.Makes decisions and recommendations that have a major impact on extensive scientific research activities.
Explores subject area and defines scope and selection of problems for investigation through conceptually related studies or series of projects of lesser scope.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in a scientific field and four years of research experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option.
