**Job Summary**
We are looking for a **Research Support Specialist I** to join our Insourcing Solutions Team in Baltimore, MD.
Provides logistical, scheduling and other functions that support National Institute of Aging mission. Provides husbandry and technical support to the investigative staff in the production and maintenance of breeding colonies necessary for the required animal models. Maintains performance levels consistent with and according to company standards for the contract at the National Institute on Aging.
+ Review, comprehend and comply with all SOP's and quality assurance standards pertaining to operation within the vivarium, animal health monitoring, and related tasks
+ Collects various types of biopsy samples for genotyping
+ Performs veterinary prescribed treatments for animals on clinical case
+ Provides various types of technical support (bleeding, biopsies, injections, etc.) to the client
+ Verification of identity for animals listed on euthanasia lab requests
+ Performs in a lead role daily, will be required to train and mentor staff.
+ Assist with coordinating the logistics for in-house surgery training, to include ensuring appropriate equipment, supplies, and other training materials are on hand and positioned, scheduling of staff for participation in classes, and appropriate documentation of training
+ Ensure proper stockage of materials, maintenance scheduling for equipment, sanitization, and related tasks.
+ Interface with research staff to assist with logistics and scheduling of projects.
+ Perform animal health assessments and carry out veterinary prescribed treatments.
+ May be required to perform irradiation, transponder insertion, oral gavage, oral dosing, injections, blood withdrawals, tissue biopsy, identification and necropsies.
+ Perform routine husbandry duties per managements request.
+ Maintain all related logs and spreadsheets for data storage.
+ May provide rodent surgical support that includes pre-, and post-surgery tasks.
Job Qualifications
+ Education: HS diploma or GED equivalency required
+ Minimum of 2 years' experience working with research animals. Experience in performing research specific technical procedures. Has knowledge of mammalian biological functions, maintaining research animal colonies, performing routine laboratory animal technical procedures (bleeding, injections, breeding, etc.), and utilizing computer skills to perform various aspects of the position
**The pay for this position is $27.74/hour.**
