The Hauf Lab at Virginia Tech (www.hauflab.org) is looking for a 1500-hr wage research technician to help with cloning and yeast strain construction for RNA live-cell imaging experiments. This is part of projects that address the role of non-coding elements of mRNA and the molecular basis of "ultra-low" gene expression noise (https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.adh5138). Techniques will include PCR, cloning, bacteria and yeast transformations, CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome editing of yeast, and fluorescence microscopy.
This position is restricted to 6 - 12 months, and is ideal for someone who seeks additional training and experience in laboratory techniques before moving on to graduate school or an industry position. Some prior experience with molecular biology and excellent organizational skills are required. The minimum time commitment will be 15 hours/week. This is a great opportunity to participate in cutting-edge molecular cell biology research and be an integral member of an enthusiastic team.
Our laboratory is committed to promoting diversity at Virginia Tech and to offering an inclusive environment. We appreciate applications by people with disabilities, and members of underrepresented or disadvantaged groups.
