Job Summary

MASS GENERAL/HARVARD LABORATORY RESEARCH ASSISTANT: CANCER BIOLOGY

The Mass General Hospital Cancer Center is looking to hire a research technician in the field of Cancer Biology. Our laboratory
seeks to improve outcomes for cancer patients through basic research studies of key tumor-cell signaling and immune pathways, and through molecular and computational analysis of tumor tissues. The candidate should have a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree with training in molecular and/or cell biology. The position is most appropriate for a recent graduate seeking an intensive research experience prior to graduate school or medical school. A 2-year commitment is strongly preferred. The candidate should be detail-oriented with good organizational and communication skills and be highly motivated.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The position will include laboratory work involving all aspects of cancer biology, including working with cell culture (sterile technique, passaging cells, quantitating cell growth, cell transfection), molecular biology (DNA and RNA quantitation, PCR, gene expression analysis, protein lysate preparation, western blot analysis), as well as clinical trial specimen processing, mouse colony management, and assisting with writing of manuscripts.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Prior experience in a molecular biology or cell biology laboratory is strongly preferred. Minimum skills required include good communication skills, computer literacy, ability for careful planning and execution of experiments, troubleshooting and data interpretation. Willingness to learn and apply general scientific knowledge and to read the relevant literature are important, as are the ability to perform multiple tasks independently.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree is required.

EXPERIENCE:
The position is appropriate for a recent college or masters graduate with previous laboratory experience of at least one year.
