Location: Vestal, NY Category: Professional & Support Staff Posted On: Wed Jan 29 2025 Job Description: The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at SUNY Binghamton University is seeking a dedicated, full-time Research Technician for a Pharmacology/Lung Vascular Biology Laboratory (Dr. Yuanjun Shen's Laboratory). This role will support a variety of translational research projects focusing primarily on mouse and human physiology. The position involves laboratory work with mouse models, human primary cells, and molecular biology assays, as well as sample collection, data processing, and general laboratory maintenance. The Research Technician will play a critical role in advancing the lab's research into pulmonary hypertension, a lung vascular disorder. Key Responsibilities: The successful candidate will work closely with the research team to support the laboratory's investigations into the mechanisms of pulmonary hypertension. Primary responsibilities include: + Mouse Handling: Manage mouse colony, including ear tagging, injections, blood and tissue sample collection, histology, and biventricular hemodynamic data collection. + Genetically Modified Mouse Models: Establish and evaluate transgenic mouse models. + Molecular Biology Techniques: Perform immunoblotting, qPCR, genotyping, RNA and protein quantification, and other related assays. + Sample Collection & Processing: Assist in collecting and processing biological samples in support of ongoing research. + Laboratory Maintenance: Ensure laboratory organization, inventory management, and ordering of supplies. + SOP Development & Maintenance: Contribute to the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs). + Documentation & Reporting: Accurately document experimental procedures, results, and observations. Present findings to the Principal Investigator and team. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: + A Bachelor's degree in a biological science, chemistry, or a related field, or equivalent years of relevant laboratory experience. + Comfort and ability to handle laboratory mice, including performing injections and sample collection. + Basic proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, order processing systems, and internet-based software. + Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to follow established protocols. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively document and share research findings. + Basic understanding of mathematical operations, including ratios, percentages, molarity, and unit conversions. Preferred Qualifications: + Familiarity with transgenic mouse establishment protocols. + Experience with R programming and data analysis. + A solid foundation in biology and biochemistry, with a particular focus on molecular biology techniques. Additional Information: Salary: $34,000 - $38,000 annually. Typically, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with occasional after-hours work as needed (with prior notice).
