Responsibilities:

Performs laboratory techniques procedures required for experimental studies.Performs technical lab duties as delegated by the Research Staff Supervisor related to the assigned project. Schedules and performs the various analysis needed to complete the project.Assists with establishing and scheduling of various procedures and analysis.Prepares reagents, purifies chemicals using chromatography, distillation, etc., identifies, separates and quantifies various substances.Conducts tests and procedures utilizing various laboratory equipment and instrumentation.Accumulates data from analyses, prepares charts, graphs, statistical tables for presentation to Research Staff Supervisor for final analysis and preparation for publication, grant proposals and applications for research funds.Potentially orders laboratory supplies and equipment.Other duties as assigned.

Education:

High School Diploma Required.  Associate’s degree in laboratory science field may offset one year of the work experience requirement. Bachelor's degree may offset two years of the work experience requirement.

Complexity of Work:

This position will handle rodent colonies within the labRequires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

Minimum of two years of experience in a research or related laboratory environment..

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periodsAbility to operate a computer and other office equipmentAbility to communicate and exchange accurate informationAbility to distinguish colorManual dexterity to handle specimens and repair equipmentAbility to lift and transport equipment or specimens weighing up to 20  poundsMay be exposed to hazardous chemicals, bio-hazards, radioactive materials, etc.
