Research Technician II - Pharmaceutical Sciences
Location: Vestal, NY Category: Professional & Support Staff Posted On: Wed Sep 4 2024 Job Description: This is a full-time on-site role for a Laboratory Technician in an aging/metabolomics lab in Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences of SUNY Binghamton University. The Lab Technician will support the translational research efforts for a variety of research projects focusing primarily on mice and human physiology. The role involves work involving mouse and human metabolomics, immunological, cellular, and molecular assays. As well as to perform and assist with collecting and processing samples, ordering supplies, and analyses in support of specialized research activities in a metabolomic-focused laboratory. Responsibilities: The Nasuhidehnavi lab investigates the mechanisms of aging in infectious diseases using mouse models, metabolomics and molecular techniques. The duties of this position will involve: + Mouse handling (managing mouse colony, ear tagging, injections, blood and tissue sample collection, histology). + Preparing and processing samples for mass spectrometry. + Preparing mass spectrometry reagents and buffers. + Performing molecular biology techniques (qPCR, genotyping by PCR, quantifications of RNA and protein). + Ordering supplies and maintaining inventory. + General laboratory maintenance and organization. + Document procedures and results accurately and present findings to the Principal Investigator. Assignments are typically non-routine and variable in nature. Job Requirements: + Bachelor's degree in one of the biological sciences, chemistry and/or equivalent years of relevant laboratory experience. + Ability and willingness to handle laboratory mice. + Basic computer skills including internet software, order processing systems, and Microsoft Office software. + Ability to comprehend instructions and to follow protocols. + Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively present and exchange ideas, and to document procedures/data collected. + Ability to be organized and perform precise and accurate work when dealing with samples and chemicals. + Ability to compute basic mathematical operations, i.e., rate, ratio, percent, molarity, and unit conversions. Preferred Qualifications: + Basic knowledge of mass spectrometry principles and techniques. + Knowledge of working with R and phyton. + Background knowledge in immunology. Additional Information: Salary: $36,900 to $38,000 annually. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 9AM to 5:30PM. Occasional work outside these hours may happen with advanced notice. Note: This is a temporary 6 month position with the possibility for an extension based on successful performance and continued funding.
