Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._ **Responsibilities:** GENERAL PURPOSE: Creates and Coordinates biospecimen inventory and tracking system of the NMD research laboratory. Performs standard laboratory procedures and biospecimen handling. Oversees biospecimen storage. Reviews quality control and proficiency testing. Ensures compliance with NYSDOH and JC regulations and standards. Follows all infection control, HIPAA and emergency management policies and procedures. Promotes laboratory service coverage through teamwork and good communication skills. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:** + Work with lab director to create an online research biospecimen inventory, storage and tracking system. This includes review and selection of software, selection of data and clinical information to be included in biorepository, data entry, data monitoring, and creation of biorepository data reports. + Appropriately store and maintain neuromuscular biorepository samples. Maintain and keep accurate records and adhere to standard lab practices. Assess biorepository capacity and monitor for storage expansion needs. + Plan and perform a variety of standardized lab tests, analyses, and observations. Set up equipment and apparatus. This includes separating plasma or serum from whole blood, and DNA extraction. + This also includes performing tissue cultures of myoblasts and fibroblasts, according to standardized protocols. + Execution of lab purchasing and shipping into and out of laboratory. Work closely with the research administrative team and the lab director to monitor accounts and appropriate billing to research accounts. + Create an inventory of existing blood and muscle samples and enter into biorepository software system once established. + Oversight of rotating students in laboratory. + Calendar Management and coordination of biorepository activities. Provides updates to include, but not limited to, scheduling meetings, reporting cancellations, and deadline notification. Extract data from various sources, process data following well defined methods, and present data. + Assist with biosample specimen collection at the bedside, e.g. skin or needle muscle biopsies. + Assist with biorepository website content and posted information and update as needed. Communicate with outside researchers and clients requesting samples. Track biosample requests.
