Reservoir Characterization Technical Geoscientist

About the position:

Chevron ENGINE is looking for high-performing candidates to join our Reservoir Characterization sub-team. The successful candidate will support Asset Class Geologists and Technical Specialists to deliver field development/application products. There will be the potential to assist with technology development. This is an early to mid-career position in the Chevron ENGINE Earth Science group for a knowledgeable Geoscientist with an established work history delivering high-quality reservoir characterization products that are utilized to evaluate hydrocarbon reservoirs. The Reservoir Characterization role will also directly support Reservoir Modeling. The successful candidate will be involved in enhancing Chevron’s Reservoir Characterization and provide input to Reservoir Modeling workflows to provide differentiating capability and integration of a mix of proprietary and best-in-class vendor products.

Key Responsibilities

The position will be responsible for executing established reservoir characterization workflows, utilized to assist with the evaluation of presence and quality of source, reservoir, and seal in subsurface hydrocarbon reservoirs

This position will be responsible for working closely with subject matter specialists in the Chevron Technical Center (CTC) in Houston, and colleagues co-located within ENGINE

The role requires the ability to integrate multiple data sets to assist business unit partners in the construction of robust geologic frameworks, with an emphasis on regional through field-scale stratigraphic interpretation and integration

Ideal candidate will have technical background in clastic and / or carbonate sedimentology and stratigraphy, and a solid understanding of either biostratigraphy or reservoir quality

Responsibilities will include the framing, prioritization, and execution of integrated studies, and an ability to work with colleagues in various locations to assess the implications for the petroleum system elements and associated risks across multiple sub-disciplines

Additional responsibilities might include assisting with research projects related to the development of new workflows and engaging with laboratory and academic partners

Required Qualifications:

M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in Geology in one of the following disciplines: clastic or carbonate stratigraphy and sedimentology, or basin analysis (from a hydrocarbon systems perspective), or structural geology

Experience with Petrel preferred, familiarity with ArcGIS, Spotfire, and advanced data analysis tools beneficial

Relevant prior experience in at least one aspect of integrated reservoir characterization workflows (i.e., stratigraphy, reservoir quality, biostratigraphy, basin analysis)

Experience with customer support and understanding of the subsurface business needs and ability to team effectively

Advanced working knowledge of Petrel interpretation workflows is preferred

Relevant work experience linked to executing integrated workflows and working with reservoir modelers and other cross-disciplinary specialists

Prior experience with geothermal or carbon sequestration projects is a plus

Working knowledge of Python, or other programming languages, familiarity with Azure ecosystems (pipelines, dashboards, visualization, or data management) a plus, but not required
