Posting Details Position Information Job Title Residence Director Full Time/Part Time Full Time FLSA Exempt General Job Description This is a live-in, professional position responsible for developing and managing the operations, programs, and services of an assigned area of residence halls. Responsible for providing comprehensive leadership and management, assisting students in total development, and selecting, supervising, and evaluating assigned employees. Responsible for adjudicating the student conduct process in assigned area. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Assistant Director of Residence Life. Essential Job Functions 1. Manages and oversees the daily operations, programs, and services of assigned residence halls. 2. Creates, develops, and maintains outreach and development opportunities and programs that foster personal wellness and community development. 3. Monitors programming and assesses effectiveness, providing feedback to assigned employees. 4. Assists students and staff in personal and professional development through formal and informal training and encouraging committee involvement, association memberships, and conference attendance. 5. Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates residence hall staff, to include planning and participating in development of student workers. 6. Completes and maintains administrative tasks such as hall files, hall records, work order requests, key requests, damage reports, room inventories, fire alarm reports, incident reports, housing cards, and hall occupancy reports. 7. Works closely with departmental maintenance and custodial staff to ensure a well-maintained living environment. 8. Manages budget for functional area within the department. Prepares, analyzes, reconciles, and maintains various reports and records. 9. Prepares paperwork and facilitates student conduct hearings. 10. Adjudicates and counsels students on residence hall policy violations. 11. Monitors and maintains security procedures for the residence halls. Non-Essential Job Functions 1. Responds and communicates effectively and immediately to emergency and/or life-threatening situations. 2. Serves as liaison between hall staff and other university departments. 3. Participates in residence hall, residence director, residence life, and university committees. 4. Participates in recruiting, hiring, and training professional and paraprofessional staff members. 5. Performs administrative and clerical duties as needed. 6. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or, using some other form of skills and abilities, be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. 1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, departmental and university policies and procedures. 2. Knowledge of student development theory, techniques, and research associated with ensuring the success of diverse student populations. 3. Skill in the use of standard office equipment and software. 4. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. 5. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions. 6. Ability to diffuse and respond effectively to situations involving intense pressures and/or unpredictable persons. 7. Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations. 8. Ability to provide support for student development with a demonstrable concern for students. 9. Ability to engage students and to create and enhance their connection to the institution and each other. 10. Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public. 11. Ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget. 12. Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, and reports. 13. Ability to train and supervise others. 14. Ability to live and work on campus in order to respond to the needs of the department 24 hours per day. 15. Ability to observe and detect unusual occurrences and policy violations. 16. Physical ability to detect smoke and other odors indicative of hall violations and hazardous situations. 17. Physical ability to climb stairs in order to reach the top floor of a residence hall in an emergency situation without assistance. Physical Demands Required Education Bachelor’s degree is required. Required Experience and Training Two years of related experience is required. Experience living and working in a residence hall or similar group living environment is required. Preferred Qualifications Residence hall staff experience is preferred. Previous supervisory and/or student leadership advising experience is preferred. Special Conditions for Eligibility This is a security-sensitive position subject to criminal record check. This is an IT-sensitive position subject to the Computer and Network Security policy. Min Pay Rate Mid Pay Rate Salary Information Hiring Salary - $43,888 Specific Job Requirements/Duties for this Posting Is Background Check Required? Yes Benefit and Retirement Eligibility This position is eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
