**Responsibilities:**
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Residence Hall Director (RHD) is a full-time, (including weekends), live-in position for the duration of the program, that may include over-time. This position is an integral member of the Pre- College Programs (PC) residential team. This is a challenging and rewarding experience with opportunities to develop skills in areas such as leadership, supervision, residential life, area management, and emergency response.
The primary role of the RHD is to create a positive residential community concentrating on the PC participants’ overall summer residential experience. PC participants are minors, under the age of 18, thus there is significant responsibility for their well-being and behavior. Over the course of the three- week program (and one week of staff training), PC will host 150 - 300 program participants. As a PC leader, they will provide regular communication to PC Counselors and program participants regarding questions or concerns, while providing support and reinforcing program policies and procedures.
The candidate must have the ability to manage high stress situations, and complete tasks by deadlines and have strong written, oral, and technological skills, organizational, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.
**SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:**
**Residential Area Management 30%**
+ Coordinates operations for Pre-College Programs (PC) summer residence hall(s); through weekly student staff schedules, ensuring that the check-in and check-out process for program participants runs efficiently, and move-in and move-outs days offer families a welcoming and smooth transition.
+ Consults with Program Manager, liaises with Security, Residential Life, Facilities, and other departments to ensure a safe and secure environment for program participants.
+ Conducts routine inspections of the residence hall(s) to confirm that cleanliness standards are met. Maintains accurate records for any damages to the living area and reports out to housekeeping supervisor, custodial, and mechanical staff for billing purposes.
+ Provides on-call availability for emergency responses; escalates to the Program Manager for confirmation of next steps. It is critical to interpret and follow PC and University policies and protocols to make clear and critical decisions.
+ Ensures nightly curfew check-ins for program participants occurs; manages requests and permissions to leave campus through appropriate sign-in and sign-out procedures.
**PC Counselors Supervision and Development 30%**
+ Supervises and manages up to 15 PC Counselors through personal and professional development activities.
+ Collaborates with the Program Manager and occasionally assumes leadership in the development and presentation of staff training as outlined in PC Staff Manuals.
+ Conducts and records weekly one-on-one meetings with PC Counselors and discusses the progress and logistics of daily programming, upcoming events, residential program participants, floor updates, and addresses any concerns that may have arisen.
+ Attends weekly one-one one meetings with Program Manager to report on the progress of PC Programs, PC Counselors, and program participants to discuss logistics, details, and other matters.
+ Provides written program feedback and assessment to Program Manager to further build and foster a positive working environment for Program Counselors in future summers.
**Community Development and Compliance 25%**
+ Builds a healthy and inclusive residential community that compliments and extends classroom learning. Fosters a lively academic and intellectual environment and culture that supports all aspects of PC and the University atmosphere; includes a balanced social and recreational climate.
+ Ensures PC Counselors and program participant are aware of PC and University policies, community standards, and responsibilities, alongside the Program Manager. Supports the behavioral development of program participants for appropriate group living at an academic institution. Confronts individuals and groups whose behavior is unacceptable; initiates intervention and conducts action or mediation programs as warranted. Submits supporting documentation to the Disciplinary Committee; follows through on additional actions.
+ Models positive customer service and healthy self-care behavior in the residential community for PC Counselors, program participants, families, etc.
**Program Management 10%**
+ Attends on and off-campus social activities as a point person. Mindful of the overall scope of trip and takes a proactive approach to the logistics, (schedules, bus information, attendance, etc.). Provides a risk management assessment ensuring that all safety rules, regulations, and procedures are followed.
**General Responsibilities 5%**
+ Acts as backup to the Program Manager as situations warrant.

**QUALIFICATIONS:**
+ Bachelor’s Degree and experience working with high school or college students along with a supervisory background is required.
+ Prior work in summer camps, youth development and/or experiential learning is preferred.
