Residence Manager
Job Description The Residence Manager works with the Unit Administrator to ensure that the youth’s residential and program needs are being met via the program staff. The Residence Manager oversees all day-to-day activities of the residence. He/she maintains the fiscal responsibilities of the residential budgets. The Residence Manager is responsible for schedules and coverage, to ensure there is appropriate staffing to maintain the overall safety and functioning of the Group home. The Residence Manager will ensure compliance with record keeping and reporting. About Abbott House Abbott House is an innovative community-based organization that helps children, families, adults and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities with complex needs build lasting foundations for a promising future. We operate programs in the New York Metropolitan area and Hudson Valley. Key Responsibilities + Directly responsible for the supervision of all direct care staff. He/she is available to staff as a role model and will provide supervision on a regular basis. He/she will provide consultation and clinical supervision to direct care staff to assure that effective treatment procedures are implemented. + Responsible for ensuring that there is sufficient coverage on all shifts. He/she is on call on a twenty-four hour / 7-day basis, should there be inadequate coverage for any given shift, and the need cannot be filled. + Responsible for keeping Unit Administrator fully informed regarding all matters pertaining to the facility. + Participates in monitoring all direct care staff time and leave. He/she is further responsible for reviewing and submitting appropriate payroll sheets on a bi-weekly basis after completion by the Assistant Residence Manager. + Involved in the preparation and presentation of staff evaluations leading to the retention or dismissal of staff. Orients and coordinates the training of all childcare staff. + Oversees development of treatment plans with direct care staff and others involved with the child’s placement and treatment. + Evaluates treatment and care of children and maintains records on each placement. + Works closely with psychiatrists, nurses, and other mental health service providers. + Supervises the Assistant Residence Manager. + Reviews the house budget and other administrative tasks. + Establishes and enhances the therapeutic milieu. + Provides feedback regarding a youngster’s behavior and adjustment and participates in short term and long-term planning. + Responsible for attending team conferences and planning meetings. + Responsible for ensuring that all youngsters’ medical and dental needs are met. + Confers and maintains effective contacts and exchanges information with social workers, guidance counselors, teachers, dental and medical personnel, and other persons associated with protecting and promoting each youth’s social, mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual training, development and overall general welfare. + Responsible for the implementation of agency and OCFS policies in the residence. + Responsible for ensuring that staff maintains thorough daily logs, accurate records of expenditures, clothing inventories and the facilities census. + Responsible for ensuring that staff adheres to all therapy/recreation schedules as established by youngsters, staff, and the therapist. + Performs regular direct care responsibilities. + Ensures that appropriate management and supervision is available seven days a week, 24 hours a day. + Any other related duties as required. Being compassionate, reliable, self-motivated, and a team player are critical attributes to be successful in this role. + You have a High School Diploma and a minimum of 3 years’ supervisory experience in a residential childcare program. Bachelor's degree in human services preferred. + You have experience working with seriously emotionally disturbed children and/or adolescents and their families. + You demonstrate excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, knowledge of mental health systems and linkages, and a familiarity with the characteristics of youth in care, serious mental illness in adolescents and children and child/adolescent psychological development.
