About the Role

The Residential Director oversees the daily operations of a residential treatment center, ensuring the well-being and treatment of residents, often individuals dealing with mental health issues, substance abuse, or behavioral problems. This role involves managing staff, ensuring adherence to treatment protocols, coordinating with healthcare providers, ensuring the highest standards of care and treatment for students, collaborating closely with school teams, and fostering a supportive, therapeutic, and safe living environment. This position works in partnership with designated schools within the special education district, supporting the educational, social, and emotional growth of students who require intensive support in both residential and school settings.

Responsibilities

 

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Staff Management:Provide administrative and programmatic leadership for the cottage.Supervise, promote, and evaluate all employees assigned to the house.Interview, hire, train, and provide ongoing coaching and feedback to employees.Plan, assign, and direct work for staff; appraise performance, reward, and discipline employees as needed.Address complaints and resolve staff-related issues in a timely and professional manner.Program and Budget Oversight:Maintain and manage the cottage budget, ensuring expenditures align with program goals and available funds.Utilize agency resources and funds responsibly, ensuring proper receipts and documentation are maintained.Rule Enforcement and Safety:Set and contribute to a safe, dignified, and orderly atmosphere by enforcing program rules, policies, and procedures.Act as a role model for clients, guiding them on daily living skills, self-care, personal interactions, and time management.Ensure compliance with fire and safety regulations, becoming certified in fire safety protocols and facilitating fire drills.Record Keeping and Documentation:Maintain thorough and accurate records, files, correspondence, and statistics as required.Complete necessary documentation, both handwritten and computer-based (data entry), in a timely, accurate, and complete manner.Ensure proper completion of log notations, incident reports, sign-in sheets, referrals, schedules, and any other required forms.Operational Responsibilities:Conduct grocery shopping for the cottage, ensuring residents have access to necessary food and supplies.Manage inventory and coordinate with staff to determine shopping needs.Ensure effective communication of priority information to staff across all shifts.Shift Coverage and Staff Support:Provide varied shift coverage as needed and available, ensuring all shift-specific tasks are completed.Participate in all relevant staff meetings, including multi-disciplinary meetings, treatment planning, and training courses related to the role.Assist with bus monitoring when needed, ensuring residents’ safety during transportation.Ensure residents are safely boarded and disembarked from transportation, providing oversight during travel.Team Collaboration:Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure the efficient operation of the cottage and overall program.Participate in regular staff and planning meetings to share information and contribute to the development of program strategies.Family & Community Relations:Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with families, keeping them informed about their child’s progress in both the residential and educational programs.Coordinate with external service providers, community agencies, and resources to support students' needs outside of the residential and school settings. Qualifications High School Degree/GEDA safe driving record as determined by NYS Department of Motor VehiclesExperience in a Residential Treatment Center working with adolescents.Minimum of 2 years of experience in a residential treatment or special education setting.Experience working with children or adolescents with emotional, behavioral, or developmental disabilities in a residential, educational, or therapeutic setting.Good communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, families, school personnel, and external agencies.Ability to manage complex cases, implement treatment plans, and provide crisis intervention when necessary.Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and therapeutic environment for all students.Flexibility with changing priorities and ability to successfully manage multiple projectsVerbal and written communication skills are essential

Work Environment:

Clinic/Field/Corporate Office

This position is based out of our Yonkers Residential Treatment Center location for adolescents ages 12-21. 

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This position is in a 24/7 program.  The RS has a fixed schedule of 1-9pm, while maintaining a flexible and structured schedule that includes regular oversight of daily operations, staff coordination, family communication, and participation in meetings, ensuring that all responsibilities are met efficiently and effectively.

 

 

Additional Requirements:

Authorized to work in the U.S.Ability to travel to NYC to attend Leadership and RG related meetings, activities, etc. Ability to travel to other Rising Ground sites (if required)

Maintain and promote an atmosphere of dignity and respect in line with the philosophy and policies of Rising Ground.  Become knowledgeable of all RTC policies and procedures; modeling, training and actively supervising the use of each.Attend all mandatory or recommended staff development workshops/trainings.Show organizational commitment which includes understanding and actively supporting the mission, policies and procedures protecting the integrity of the Agency.
