Summary About the Position: Incumbent will serve as the Resident Engineer under the general supervision of the Area Engineer. Incumbent will receive assignments in the form of plans and specification covering work to be accomplished by contractors and schedules for completion of the construction work. Responsibilities Approve contractors’ construction schedules and quality control procedures. Make controlling interpretations of intent of drawings and specifications. Review project plans and specifications prior to contract advertisement to determine such things as practicability from construction standpoint. Supervise inspection of construction operations for compliance with specifications. Determine that contractors’ operations comply with wage and hour law or other applicable labor laws and regulations. Determine that contractors are properly recording work accomplished and materials used. Make controlling interpretations of intent of drawings and specifications. Determine whether methods and materials employed meets the requirements of contract specifications. Participates in design and planning review conferences to discuss construction aspects and problems. Supervise conduct of detailed site survey, plotting profiles, and cross sections. Develops or reviews specifications for clearing of land, for excavation, and for building of access roads and utilities, construction offices, testing facilities and maintenance and storage facilities. Keeps Area Office and Construction Division personnel informed on project operations. Plans and assigns work to subordinates. Review work of subordinates for adequacy and compliance with instruction or policy. Determine work schedules and priorities. Evaluate performance of subordinates. (4) Directing inspection of construction operations for compliance with intent of design. and/or (5) Interpreting plans, field inspection, observing and investigating construction at all stages, pay estimate data, required work schedules, certificates and test results on equipment and materials and enforcing safety provisions.
