ROLE OVERVIEW
As a Resilience Engineer, you are responsible for ensuring that the technology policies and standards of the bank are continuously adhered to and accounts for stability, recoverability, and resilience of the IT infrastructure, applications and SaaS Partner ecosystem.
This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining strategies to mitigate risks, manage disruptions, and ensure seamless operations during crisis events. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate business impacts, develop disaster recovery (DR) plans, and conduct regular testing to enhance the bank's resilience posture.
You will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the bank's ability to deliver uninterrupted services to clients and stakeholders.
KEY RESULT AREAS
Business Impact Analysis: Collaborate with stakeholders to conduct BIAs and identify critical user journeys, applications, and infrastructure. Assess dependencies and potential impacts of service disruptions on banking operations and customer interactions.Resilience Planning: Develop, document, and update DR plans to address identified risks and ensure alignment with business continuity requirements. Provide input on cloud-based architectures to enhance recoverability and resilience; ensuring DR plans comply with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.Risk Assessment: Conduct periodic reviews of systems, applications, processes and Partners to identify resilience risks. Provide recommendations for improving uptime, data integrity, and system recoverability.Disaster Recovery Testing: Design, plan, and execute DR tests verifying DR plans and propose remediation strategies for any gaps identified. Document test outcomes, lessons learned, and improvement actions.Incident Response: Participate in incident management processes to support timely resolution and post-incident reviews. Incorporate lessons learned from incidents into updated DR and resilience strategies.Training and Awareness: Provide training to digital bank staff on service continuity and resilience procedures and foster a culture of preparedness.Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of service continuity and resilience plans, policies, and procedures in a standardised and consistent approach.Collaboration: Act as a liaison between Chapters and Squads to ensure alignment on resilience goals. Communicate technical concepts and plans effectively to non-technical stakeholders. Partner with Risk and Compliance teams to ensure resilience standards are met.ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of AWS services.Familiarity with BIA methodologies and tools.Proficiency in creating and testing DR plansUnderstanding of IT infrastructure, networks, and application dependencies.Experience with monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., CloudWatch, DataDog).Experience and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field.Experience in resilience engineering, business continuity, or disaster recovery, preferably in a financial services environment.Strong knowledge of industry standards and frameworks (e.g., ISO 22301, NIST, ITIL).Experience with regulatory compliance in the banking or financial sector.Soft Skills:
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.Strong communication and collaboration skills to interact effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Certifications (Preferred):
AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional).Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) or equivalent.ITIL Foundation or Practitioner.Performs quality assurance checks for applications developed in house, packaged, or third-party hosted, using a variety of manual and automated tools. Develops and implements quality assurance, problem reporting processes and systems. OML roles mapped to this profile are: IT Quality Engineer and Senior Quality Engineer.ResponsibilitiesQuality Assurance TestingSelect the appropriate complex tests or tests from a specified range and carry out using specialized methods and equipment; validate and interpret test data to verify that specifications are met and/or to identify remedial actions required to ensure conformance or suitability.
Testing Information Technology (IT) PerformanceDesign and perform website/applications software tests and respond to user emails to monitor, diagnose, and correct performance issues.
Quality Assurance Testing DesignCarry out a range of complex activities to generate evidence in support of the validation of existing and new quality assurance test methods and procedures.
Quality Management SystemCarry out a range of quality management activities under the guidance of senior colleagues to contribute to the identification and evaluation of current policies and business processes that are in the scope of the quality management system (QMS) and to support the design, development, and documentation of new policies, procedures, and business processes.
Operational ComplianceIdentify, within the team, instances of noncompliance with the organization's policies and procedures and/or relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, reporting these instances and escalating issues as appropriate.
Continuous ImprovementContribute to reviewing existing operations in own area of work, and generate new ideas to assist in identifying continuous improvements.
Application Software DevelopmentContribute to development of existing and new applications by analyzing and identifying areas for modification and improvement. Contribute to development of new applications to meet customer requirements.
Application Software Road MapMaintain a roadmap to facilitate application software development and ensure the development work is prioritized in line with business requirements.
Applications Software MaintenanceMonitor, identify, and correct straightforward software defects to maintain fully functioning applications software.
Design and ConceptualizationResearch and interpret data, trends, and benchmarks relevant to digital products/services design.
DocumentationCreate and maintain technical and/or user documentation to a high standard.
