Resource and Activities Navigator - 11-145 - SC/Anaheim Emergency Shelter (AES)

Position Summary

The Resource & Activities Navigator assists residents in transforming their lives by planning and organizing activities designed to promote housing stabilization and community integration. The Resource & Activities Navigator will develop and maintain a monthly activities calendar tailored to AES staff and resident’s needs. The Resource & Activities Navigator is responsible for providing specialized resources, maintaining inventory of and distributing in-kind gifts, issues clothing vouchers, bus passes. 

The Resource & Activities Navigator will be supervised and work closely with the Program Coordinator in planning, developing, and evaluating on-site needs to develop activities and linkages to resources.  The Resource & Activities Navigator will maintain communication with Operations Coordinator and Facilities staff to discuss coordination of on-site activities.  The Resource & Activities Navigator must fully embrace the ministry and mission of The Salvation Army, accept its Christian principles and values, and protect and enhance the image of The Salvation Army to the public.

Essential Functions

Resident Resources

Assist residents with issuing bus passes and clothing vouchers. Assist residents with providing information and forms when applicable for obtaining California I.D., Social Security Card, Birth Certificate and Medical Insurance. Assist residents with external linkages to resources and social service benefits not offered on-site. Assist residents with researching information for external referrals. Refer residents to services offered on-site. Provide residents with information on other TSA programs such as Adult Rehabilitation Centers, Anti-Trafficking, Pastoral Care, divisional social service centers. Electronically maintain resource binder up to date with flyers and brochures of community events or resources residents can connect to. Vet resources, establish, maintain healthy alliances and community collaborations with agencies, organizations, churches, companies, resources centers. Maintain and organize the clothing donation bin.

On-site Activities

Develop and lead workshops and groups designed to promote collaboration, being good neighbors, living in shared space.

Plan and organize activities designed to engage residents, to include monthly birthday celebrations, holidays, special events, resident interests’ activities.

Plan and organize staff activities: birthdays, holidays, special events intended to increase morale and build camaraderie.

Oversee planning committee schedule agenda and meeting minutes.

Record Keeping

Maintain proper documentation including but not limited to: assistance offered: vouchers, bus passes, monthly statistics of resources rendered. Develop and maintain activities calendar. Develop and maintain attendance logs for events, workshops, groups. Provide programming staff updates on assistance provided to residents: resources, referrals, vouchers, bus passes. Communicate challenges or general observations to residents’ assigned Housing Case Manager. Input case note in internal and external services tracking system for services, resources, referrals resident received or was connected to. Maintain confidentiality, adhere to TSA and HIPAA standards. Enter and Exit residents from your resident tracking log to ensure records are current and accurate.

Miscellaneous

Participate in AES “all” staff meeting. Participate in Homeless Service staff meetings and trainings. Participate in Social Service and Community meetings as appropriate. Perform other assigned duties as directed.

PAY RATE: $22.00-$24.00/hr.

Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.  Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.  Ability to operate computer, fax, and telephone. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications     

BSW or related degree preferred. Minimum 1-year experience working with the homeless providing mental health services, linkages to resources, individual and group therapy, clinical assessment, crisis intervention, referrals. Minimum 1-year experience coordinating activities for large groups with proven outcomes. Ability to drive and maintain a valid Class C California Driver’s License. Able to pass a TSA Driving Test and maintain a clean MVR. Able to maintain confidential information in accordance with Salvation Army and industry standards. Must be in good physical health and mental health, capable of meeting position demands.

Bilingual/Bi-literate English/Spanish preferred. Must have ability to communicate effectively and remain positively engaged with co-workers, community members, and residents. Able to function in a fast-paced, frequently changing environment and be adaptable. Must have flexible availability. Must possess effective time management skills. Must be able to prioritize work and meet deadlines. Must model professionalism and be able to communicate in an appropriate, responsive, supportive manner. Effective, thoughtful interpersonal communication with residents. Clear, trauma informed, communication when resolving conflict. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Computer literate; effectively use computerized database for resident file management, with basic skills in Microsoft Office: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook email.
