Resource Clinical Educator

Summary:

The Resource Clinical Educator reports to the Director for the Center of Professional Practice and Innovation (CPPI) and functions as a resource clinical expert to all nursing units within Newport Hospital by assisting with evaluating patient care practices staff development and required educational trainings/certifications. 

 

Responsibilities:

Supports the Director of CPPI and nurse leaders in the development of quality plans and in establishing goals that are aligned with the hospital�s overall initiatives.

Assists nursing staff with procedures policies and care of patients on all nursing units. Readily adapts to change and welcomes new approaches when circumstances demand.

Promote and participate in quality improvement activities throughout all nursing departments.

Work closely with nursing staff to develop an environment that promotes staff growth role competency and proficiency in nursing skills/critical thinking.

Act as an effective role model for staff through mentoring and teaching in an endeavor to achieve optimal staff development and service outcomes and patient experience. Track and monitors new nursing staff progress during the orientation period to promote RN professionalism and provide guidance to the Novice RN.

Assesses learning needs of nursing staff on a continual basis. Plans develops delivers and tracks successful staff completion of required unit and hospital competencies and provides �just-in-time� education for individuals and groups to maintain a culture of quality and safety.

Assists with the introduction and integration of new patient care technology and equipment.

Assists in emergent procedure as skills allow on assigned units.

Round frequently on all nursing units and function as a resource for staff.

Serves as a resource for select CPPI initiatives and hospital programs/training.

Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Other information:

Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Master�s degree in Nursing required.

Must have current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.

Certification in specialty area preferred or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

Maintains current AHA BLS. AHA ACLS required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire. Complete instructor course for AHA BLS � AHA ACLS when offered.

Complete Safety Care Trainer program within 6 months of hire.

Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities to work autonomously organize coordinate and monitor project work.

Excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills required.

Proficient in Microsoft applications (Excel Word PowerPoint TEAMs) and EPIC � LifeChart electronic medical record.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 2-3 years relevant clinical experience in hospital setting with demonstrated teaching/leadership and communication skills. Experience as a Charge RN and Preceptor RN preferred. Experience in leading nursing and multidisciplinary groups in implementing patient care programs. Previous teaching experience in clinical settings preferred.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

General hospital environment with occasional stressful conditions associated with patient care. Position requires frequent standing walking and sitting. Must be able to use both hands/wrists and perform work that deviates from neutral position and be able to perform fine motor skills. Must have accurate near and far vision 20/20 depth perception and discriminate among colors.
