Position Purpose
The Maternal Child Resource RN provides optimal patient care utilizing knowledge and skills within the context of evidence based nursing practice and the theory of human caring.The RN is accountable for individualized patient care and outcomes over an entire episode of care.
Nature and Scope
The Maternal Child Resource RN must provide optimal patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of neonatal, pediatric, and adolescent patients and families.
The Maternal Child Resource RN must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensor, psychosocial, and safety appropriate to the age of the patient served and meets standards of quality as measured by the unit/department special populations competency standards.
When possible, the family or those significant to the family are considered as part of the assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation efforts of this position.The Maternal Child Resource RN coordinates care between other professionals.
Evidence based nursing practice, along with critical thinking skills are required to provide optimally safe patient care when interacting with internal and external contacts and exercising judgment and making decisions.Professional nursing practice is congruent with the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics.
Maternal Child Resource RNs areas in the maternal child module which include Pediatrics, PICU, Pediatric Emergency Department, NICU and Post Partum. The Pediatric Resource RNs must demonstrate mastery of one critical care specialty within designated float areas.
Maternal Child Resource RNs who are per diem will float to the Pediatrics, PICU, NICU, and Post Partum departments at minimum.
This position will work one major holiday per year (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years) AND one minor holiday per year (Presidents Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Nevada Day, and/or Veterans Day).
This position does provide patient care.

Education:
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English.
Experience:
Minimum one year of acute care experience in Maternal Child Services, or equivalent required.
License(s):
Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Registered Nurse license.
Certification(s):
BLS required upon hire. NRP, PALS, and ACLS required within six months of hire. STABLE preferred.
Computer / Typing:
Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days,the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
