Summary:
Under the general supervision of respiratory care management the respiratory care practitioner provides clinical patient care assessments initiation and modification of respiratory care procedures and therapies to neonatal pediatric and adult patient populations.
Responsibilities:
Evaluates assesses and performs prescribed clinical procedures and therapy by order of a licensed medical provider in compliance with department policies and procedures.
Analyzes and evaluates clinical patient data to determine the appropriate therapy or intervention and offers recommendations on patient care to the medical staff.
Responsible to evaluate assess and maintain equipment used in the delivery of Respiratory Care therapeutic modalities.
Provides clinical instruction and in service education for students new employees other health care professionals patients and family members as assigned.
Provides safe and effective service to the Code Response Team Rapid Response/Fast Team.
Understands and implements hospital policies regarding infection control and bio-hazard waste procedures.
Records all pertinent data and treatment information at the time of treatment on the approved flow sheets or EMR. Will safeguard the privacy and confidentiality of all patient medical information.
Assumes lead responsibilities as delegated.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE and QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
Associates Degree in an AMA-approved respiratory therapy program.
Certified Respiratory Therapists who will become Registered Respiratory Therapists within six (6) months of hire.
Registered as a respiratory therapist through the National Board of Respiratory Care.
Required Respiratory Care Practitioner License from the State of Rhode IslandRequired Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart AssociationInterpersonal skills � to instruct and calm patients. Analytic skills � to interpret blood gas reports calculate results of pulmonary function tests and synthesize interrelated data from various medical disciplines. Leadership ability � to establish priorities assign work to practitioners when assigned charge responsibilities and instruct students.
Ability to operate all respiratory therapy and diagnostic testing equipment.
EXPERIENCE:
One year of experience as a respiratory care practitioner preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Prolonged standing and walking. Exposed to all patient elements. May be required to lift/turn patients and equipment. Repeated bending squatting stooping. Sufficient visual acuity and manual dexterity to use computer keyboard and other common office equipment. Any hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions.
