Job Description:
Respiratory Therapist CRT/RRT - PRN
Status: PRN
Shift: 3rd
**One full weekend per 6 week schedule required**
Job Summary:
Utilizes judgmental responsibility to give correct therapy, to assess the effectiveness of therapy associated with therapeutic gases, aerosol’s, humidity, and chest physiotherapy.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual's job. He or she may perform other duties, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.
1. Follows department policies and procedures.
2. Demonstrates proficiency in all equipment including function, set-up, indications of use, physiological effects upon the patient and proper maintenance procedures where applicable.
3. Performs, assesses, and instructs the effective administration of oxygen and other prescribed medications, humidification, incentive Spirometry, and chest physiotherapy. Patient/family education will also include the safe and effective use of equipment where pertinent.
4. Administers patient medication per the policies of AdminRx.
5. Assesses patient’s response to therapy and makes recommendations to physicians.
6. Reports pertinent clinical patient information to preceptor, nurse, or physician.
7. Documents patient assessment, response to therapy and pertinent clinical information on appropriate forms and records.
8. Responds to all respiratory care pages in a timely manner.
9. Performs effective airway management and chest compressions in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
10. Takes and records verbal orders for respiratory procedures.
11. Assists in maintenance and operational verification procedures of all respiratory equipment.
12. Reports equipment malfunctions or needs to supervisor.
13. Assists in Quality Improvement Activities.
14. Complies with relevant local, state, and federal rules and regulations, laws and requirements of accrediting bodies and other external associations.
15. Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required:
A. EDUCATION – High school diploma or equivalent preferred and must be actively enrolled in an AMA approved school of Respiratory Care.
B. SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS – Must hold an active student “Limited Certificate” from the Kentucky Board for Respiratory Care. Must provide continuous proof of progression through the program via checklist.
C. Must maintain active certification in Basic Life Support.
