Reviews patients’ charts to obtain the blood-gas reports and other pertinent information. + Explains treatment procedures to patient and/ or family members to alleviate fears and elicit cooperation. + Checks equipment for proper set-up, functioning, and settings, and verifies physicians’ orders before initiating procedures and treatments. + Prepares medications according to prescription/order and adds to device. + Observes patients during therapy, instructs patient in breathing pattern, and reports any abnormalities to the physician. Documents treatment activities and results in the patient record (i.e. treatment type, medication, HR, PR, BS, cough, and so on). + Monitors patients on continuous ventilation including maintenance of airway patency, suctioning, and documents in such during scheduled vent checks. When indicated, wean patients from mechanical ventilation according to established protocols. + Performs other duties consistent with the purpose of the job as directed. **Education:** + Requires graduation from a CoARC accredited Respiratory Care Program. + Requires Associates degree in Respiratory Care. + Successfully completed the NBRC examination for Certified Respiratory Therapist. **Certifications/Experience:** + Must have Indiana State licensure in Respiratory Therapy + Preferred minimum of 1 year’s acute care clinical experience working in the field of Respiratory Therapy.
