The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital, operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), is seeking is seeking a seasoned and dynamic lead Respiratory Therapist. The role involves providing both technical and administrative oversight for the respiratory care team. The Respiratory Therapist III administers treatments for respiratory disorders and is primarily responsible for overseeing the Respiratory Care Department's activities. This includes supervising staff, offering instruction and procedural guidance, and ensuring adherence to standards of practice, policies, and regulations.
Hours: 7:30AM-4:00PM Monday-Friday with Weekends Off
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
Plan, organize, and supervise the activities of the Respiratory Care Department to ensure compliance with hospital policies, standard practices, and applicable federal, state, and Joint Commission (JC) regulations.Plan and direct performance improvement and quality assurance activities within the Respiratory Care Department.Ensure coverage and determine staffing needs by overseeing scheduling and staffing for a 24-hour Respiratory Care Department.Assess the performance of Respiratory Care Technicians (Level I-II), provide feedback, and suggest improvements to enhance their knowledge and skills.Analyze statistical data (census, acuity, personnel changes, productivity, accidents, attendance) to recommend actions for effective resource utilization.Examine medical records and utilization reviews to ensure compliance with regulations and professional standards.Coordinate and provide orientation and in-service education to Respiratory Therapy Technicians and nursing/medical staff.Initiate and coordinate special projects to maintain or upgrade patient care quality; evaluate and recommend new treatment modalities and equipment.Serve on special committees or teams to ensure proper respiratory care procedures and treatment compliance.Maintain the sleep study program, ensuring proper training, data transfer, and system functionality in collaboration with biomedical engineering and IT.Required Qualifications:
Possess advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of Respiratory Care.Ability to oversee operations across multiple units and areas.Supervise effectively by planning, assigning, and reviewing work; determining training needs and disciplinary actions.Lead and organize efforts to achieve work objectives and performance standards.Prioritize and delegate work assignments efficiently.Stay calm and make sound judgments in emergencies or emotionally charged situations.Communicate effectively with staff and patients to maintain standards of care.Build rapport and work effectively with diverse groups.Be sensitive to patient needs and responses to treatment.Think critically to handle moderately complex issues.Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of principles of supervision.Ability to treat chronically ill patients.Effective use of Respiratory Therapy equipment.The ability to link long-term vision and goals to daily work.Establish goals and strive for excellence and improvement for self and department.About the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital:

Located in the heart of Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood, the Shattuck Hospital includes 248 inpatient beds including 95 Psychiatric beds and 29 Correctional Health beds. In addition, the Shattuck has a full outpatient clinic with many specialties that offers treatment to patients of the Department of Mental Health as well as Department of Correction and House of Correction inmates and community patients.
The Shattuck hospital is on the forefront of substance use disorder treatment including a Suboxone clinic serving 200 patients. In addition to direct medical services LSH hosts and supports an array of services located on the campus, serving patients struggling with addictions and homelessness.
