Respite Provider(s) - White River Junction

Position Purpose:

Provides day, weekend and overnight community support services, respite and community integration for children in the Children, Youth and Family Program or the Developmental Disabilities program.

 Principal Responsibilities and Duties:

Implements individual and/or group interventions and activities within the home or community setting to develop healthy social, emotional and self-regulation skills. Interacts with clients, families, and other team members to improve communication. Maintain clear and appropriate boundaries with families. Provides transportation for the client as necessary and with signed consents. Write and keeps client records and notes updated and on a timely basis.

 Scope of Position:

Services will be provided at the frequency and duration indicated in the clients treatment plan. Most COS/Respite workers are hourly employees and will be paid for direct services provided to the client plus supervision times as determined by the Respite Coordinator.

 Key Knowledge, Skills and Abilities to successfully perform this job:

Demonstrated knowledge of child and youth development and skills in providing safe and appropriate coaching and support strategies to the client. The ability to understand and set safe and respectful boundaries with self, clients and others. Has the ability to monitor and set limits on television, video games, phone usage, internet usage, etc. Has the ability to monitor a child or youth’s safety through seeing where they are, hearing if they are in distress, communicating with the child/youth in a manner  that the child/youth can understand, and is able to access the child in normal home or community settings. Works fairly and compassionately with a child/youth from a different race, culture, religion, county, or linguistic background. Works safely and compassionately with a child/youth with emotional, behavioral developmental or learning challenges. Demonstrated ability to stay calm, patient and professional amidst numerous potentially stressful situations. Models appropriate attitudes and behaviors, particularly a positive outlook, emotional stability, insight and compassion when working with challenging youth. Provides safe and healthy space, activities and nourishment while providing services to a child/youth. The ability to report data accurately and on a timely basis. Maintain accurate records of cash disbursements according to agency guidelines. Meeting or exceeding productivity standards as established by agency. Acting in accordance with all agency policies.

 Relationships:

Supervised by Program Coordinator and Group Leader. Will model professional and appropriate behavior while in the community, in the client home, interacting with parents, family members, community members and staff.

 Minimum:

 Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations within a community setting. Ability to know when to get help.

At least two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of behavior management and procedures for maintaining confidentiality are desirable.

Working Conditions and Additional Information:

Has a driver’s license and no history of driving or other violation. Will provide pick-up and drop-off of client. Provide safe, fun and healthy activities with the client in the community, at the HCRS office or on road trips.
