THE ROLE

  

A Restaurant Host will be responsible for politely greeting and welcoming guests to the restaurant, providing venue information, assisting guests to their tables and other areas within the venue, assigning guests to the waitlist and communicating information to other crew members to ensure guest satisfaction.   

 

WHAT THIS ROLE WILL DO 

Maintain line of sight/atmosphere control by circulating through your work area during shift  

Follow House of Blues safety, health, and sanitation standards  

Assist other employees as needed  

Follow opening, running, closing procedures, checking out with manager on duty  

Adhere to all HOB policies and procedures 

Ensure responsible alcohol service per local ordinance and HOB alcohol policies 

Request proper identification for anyone appearing under 30 years of age

Recognize when guests are becoming too intoxicated and refuse further service of alcohol in a courteous and safety-minded manner, bringing it to the attention of a manager

Required to occasionally work special events scheduled within the venue

Greet and thank each guest for visiting the House and invite him/her to return in a friendly and sincere manner

Utilize the HOB reservation/wait system and control the flow of guests in the restaurant

Obtain guests’ names, number in party, contact information, and arrival times and any needs for children to make reservations

Estimate and quote accurate wait times for tables, and direct guests to appropriate locations to wait

Show guests to tables and guide them to additional areas within the venue

Anticipate and respond to guest needs 

Market current and future shows and events by placing all marketing literature on dining tables

Properly answer guest questions regarding the menu, music hall, events, related art, music, history, and artists appearing at the House

Polish and clean all entry doors/windows throughout the shift

Ensure restaurant dining rooms and bathrooms are clean and stocked to par at all times

 

WHAT THIS PERSON WILL BRING 

 

Required: 

Applicants for employment in the U.S. must possess work authorization which does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa  

Attention to detail  

Positive attitude   

Teamwork; work well with others, in a high-volume and sometimes stressful environment  

Keep a clean, well-groomed appearance  

Punctual attendance with a flexible schedule including nights and weekends   

Tolerance of all cultures, music, and art forms 

Responsible Alcohol Awareness Training Certification or Equivalent (paid training will be provided) 

Working knowledge of restaurant operations, seating procedures, guest relations, problem solving  

Skill in diplomacy, handling multiple tasks, verbal skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills 

Ability to seat guests in a high-volume restaurant at a pace that maximizes efficiency of service and performance of overall operations 

Efficient in basic computer skills 

 

Preferred: 

High School diploma or equivalent

Experience in a high volume, fast paced work environment

Experience recognizing valid ID’s

Point of Sales knowledge, preferable MICROS

Experience with Open Table and/or other reservation software

Previous Customer Service/ Host experience 

Physical Demands/Working Environment: 

Willing to commute to downtown area (discounted $7 parking available daily)   

Working environment is fast paced, can be hot, and/or loud  

Position requires extended periods of prolonged standing and/or working on your feet
