Retail Management (Intern)

Food City Interns work on meaningful projects spanning all solutions and services throughout the company. Created for upcoming Junior and Senior college students, our full-time (40 hours/week), 12-week programs are designed to provide hands-on experience within your area of interest. As an Intern, you will join over 19,000 talented individuals across five states who are leaders, critical thinkers, accountable, innovative, flexible, and results-minded with the same goal – to better serve our communities.

Location:         Retail Management is open to any of our geographic areas in KY, VA, TN, GA, or AL

Description:  As you launch your career in Retail Operations, you will be mentored by Store Management and Company Leadership who will guide your experience while you learn how to successfully manage a K-VA-T Food Stores, Inc. retail store. A typical program may consist of the following:

Learn the competencies required to lead a team in several departments within the Front-End, Produce, Grocery, Food Service, Meat/Seafood, Pharmacy, and Merchandising areas to understand the operations and functionality of each area.Participating in K-VA-T Food Stores, Inc. trainings, meetings, and presentations to gain retail industry knowledge and learn best business practices. Gain exposure to company measures including sales, shrink, and contribution using internal systems.Prepare and implement a Continuous Improvement project which will be formally presented at the conclusion of the program.

Program Requirements:

Currently enrolled in a college or university as a Junior or Senior, majoring in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a relevant field of study.Recently graduated with an undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a relevant field of study.Minimum 3.0 GPA, cumulative.Have strong communication, interpersonal, and time management skills.Ability to preserve confidentiality of company information.Ability to work with own initiative.

Not Required, but Encouraged:

Previous experience in a professional work environmentParticipation in leadership rolesCommunity involvement and volunteerism

Documentation Requirements:

Provide a copy of most recent college transcripts.Provide a resume and a cover letter.Provide two (2) letters of recommendation:One Academic letter of recommendation and One Professional/Personal Letter of recommendation.Provide a written essay with a minimum of 400 words, covering the following topics:Why would you like to intern with K-VA-T/ Food City?What do you hope to gain from an internship with Food City?
