Retina Ophthalmic Technician

The Retina Ophthalmic Technician, at the direction of the physician, prepares the patient for the physician examination and treatment. This role is responsible for assisting the physician during and before the patient's appointment in order to ensure a successful patient visit. Uses increased knowledge of optics and refraction to measure vision by advanced methods relevant to the patients' needs and abilities. Ophthalmic retina photography is often performed by the Ophthalmic Technician.
Obtains confrontation visual fields for each eye of the patient.
Measures and records the intraocular pressure for each eye based on the physician?s orders.
Performs pupillary examination and documents patient visit and examination details.
Supports performing other ophthalmic tests at the direction of the ophthalmologist.
Helps physician by placing dilating eye medications in each eye based on the physician?s orders.
Works with physician to consult with Ophthalmic technician on complicated or difficult patient conditions.
Performs other duties as reasonably required or assigned.

Talent Pool: Allied Health
Escorts patient to room and take proper ophthalmic history. Including but not limited to chief complaint, present illness, and current medications.
Obtains confrontation visual fields for each eye of the patient.

EDUCATION:Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
EXPERIENCE:Preferred: Relevant experience while employed in an ophthalmic setting
