Retirement Investment Analyst
Overview:

Manages and participates in compiling, developing, updating and analyzing economic, market and performance data across all asset classes, including equity, fixed income, bonds and alternatives, both domestically and internationally, to support the Retirement Advisory team to ensure the business is acting in the clients' best interests, while minimizing risk to the organization. Additional responsibilities include managing investment reporting data services vendor relationships, project management and investment reporting deliverables for RAS clients.

Primary Responsibilities:

Investment knowledge: Detailed knowledge of Target Date universe is required. Implement and maintain research for multiple target date suites, includes providing quarterly updates for the Head of Fiduciary Oversight. Similarly, maintain and update research for all other asset classes within our retirement plans. Knowledge of capital preservation options specific to retirement plans is also preferred (ie Stable Value, GICs, etc…).

Committee Participation: There are two key committees that Retirement Advisory is actively involved with. The person in this role will be responsible for organizing and facilitating quarterly committee meetings between the Retirement Advisory team and various Risk teams to understand the investment process, potential gaps and ensure a smooth and linear investment experience for the Committee. Ensure all members of the Committee understand key inputs and decision points related to investment process, including considering portfolio performance resulting from past decisions, to enable informed decisions to be made on current decisions. Provide timely performance updates to Committee members, including ensuring performance metrics in all books are current. Surveil all key events impacting markets in the US and globally and synthesize these events into our outstanding core narrative, inclusive of reading third party market and economic commentaries and distributing these to Committee members for their information.

In addition, attend weekly sales meetings for the Retirement Advisory team and facilitate weekly calls between senior leadership and the sales team to discuss and approve new business opportunities.

Intellectual Capital: Research investment topics in the retirement space for development of whitepapers and fiduciary updates and training for our clients.  Work closely with Head of Fiduciary Oversight to incorporate our long-term economic and market views into our investment framework, with constant consideration of how this pertains to retirement plans and our philosophy on how to structure retirement plan lineups.

Overall: Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management. Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand. Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable. Complete other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience,

OR in lieu of a degree,

A combined minimum of 9 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience

Detailed understanding of the investment process within retirement plans

Strong understanding of capital markets and current knowledge of the state of the industry

Excellent written and presentation skills

Proficient with personal computers, as well as pertinent spreadsheet software

Proficient with common industry tools, including Bloomberg, FactSet and Morningstar Direct

Highly analytical, research-driven skill set

Prior experience communicating insights to internal and external stakeholders

Education and Experience Preferred:

Minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience

Experience working with plan participants preferred

CIMA, CFP or retirement industry specific designation, or progress toward, is preferred

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $121,698.75 - $202,831.26 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
