IPERS is recruiting for a Retirement Investment Officer and/or a Retirement Investment Officer Senior. The positions perform similar work with differing levels of oversight. Candidates are advised to apply to one or both positions depending on their background and experience. Responsibilities: + Assist in managing IPERS' $14B+ private markets investment portfolio, including private credit, real assets, private equity, and co-investments + Analyze private market performance metrics, validate management fees, and maintain investment software + Research investment themes and trends and identify new opportunities for investments + Collaborate on sourcing, underwriting, and selecting co-investments and primary investments + Develop financial forecasts, conduct cost-benefit analyses, and prepare investment memos and presentations + Negotiate business terms, monitor assigned accounts, and participate on Advisory Boards + Contribute to portfolio construction, risk management, and annual investment planning + Present portfolio updates to IPERS' Investment Board + Periodic out-of-state and international travel required Preferred skill/experience: + Experience in private market investments, preferably in a similar role at an allocator + Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills + Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills + Ability to work collaboratively in a flat organizational environment + Advanced degrees in investments, economics, finance, or quantitative analysis (e.g., MBA, CFA, CAIA) highly valued. Minimum Qualification Requirements Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification: 1) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a quantitative field (e.g., mathematics, engineering, computational finance, physics, etc.), and experience equal to five years of full-time investment portfolio management work for a stock exchange, investment or banking firm, public or private pension system, or treasurer's office. 2) All of the following (a, b, and c): a. Three years of full-time investment portfolio management work for a stock exchange, investment or banking firm, public or private pension system, or treasurer's office; and b. A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in finance, economics, business administration, or a quantitative field (e.g., mathematics, engineering, computational finance, physics, etc.) equals one year of full-time experience; and c. A total of two years of graduate-level education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where twenty-four semester hours of accredited graduate college or university course work in finance, economics, business administration, or a quantitative field (e.g., mathematics, engineering, computational finance, physics, etc.) equals one year of full-time experience. 3) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work as a Retirement Investment Officer.
