RF - Academic Success Coach (2 positions) - EMERGE Program
Location: Farmingdale, NY Category: The Research Foundation Posted On: Wed Nov 6 2024 Job Description: The EMERGE program at Farmingdale State College will leverage strategies that have been proven to promote student success and currently seeks to hire two dedicated Academic Success Coaches for the College's Office of First Year/Transfer Year Experience (OFY/TYE). Reporting to the EMERGE Director and working collaboratively with the Associate Provost, academic departments, and various functional areas, these individuals will assist with the efforts to: + Create and deliver First year and Transfer Year Experience Courses; + Develop Freshman Learning Communities + Provide students with intrusive advising and academic success coaching; + Foster learning support; and + Facilitate co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Under the direction of the EMERGE Director, the Academic Success Coaches will provide supplemental oversight of program implementation. Key responsibilities will include: Academic Advising + Provide individualized academic, career, and personal counseling support for a caseload of students + Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of student participation and academic progress + Collaborate with a wide range of staff, faculty, and key campus personnel (i.e., Admissions, Financial Aid, etc.) to offer wraparound student services + Conduct monthly case conference meetings and track progress of students experiencing academic or personal challenges + Act as a student advocate and connect students to available campus resources and support services + Conduct workshops and prepare advisement materials and handbooks + Help students prepare applications for research opportunities, internships, graduate school, etc. + Coordinate and chaperone occasional field trips to industry locations, graduate school visits, etc. + Participate in professional development trainings to advance pertinent skillsets OFY/TYE Events and Programming + Plan and supervise key programmatic FY/TY events + Coordinate with EMERGE Director to secure guest speakers for specialized program events + Develop and implement student development workshops to further academic, career, and personal growth of program participants + Research potential educational and cultural experiences for program participants + Plan and chaperone field trips throughout the year to broaden students' cultural awareness Job Requirements: MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: + Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field + Experience working within a college-related setting supporting historically disadvantaged students or other program with similar mission + Relevant experience providing support student development and success services for historically disadvantaged college populations + Strong data management (i.e., student rosters, program engagement levels, etc.) skills + Excellent oral and written communication abilities + Ability to work occasional evenings and overnight travel for program events + Proficiency with social media platforms, Microsoft Office, and Google Suite ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: + Experience working with various College constituents from both the student affairs and academic affairs divisions. + Experience in securing and maintaining external partnerships that enhance student opportunities and resources for development + Prior experience with student information database application, such as Banner + Proficiency in computer systems, including Microsoft Office + Creative, organized, and motivated individual interested in student development Additional Information: This is a full-time Research Foundation position. + Closing date for receipt of applications: December 6, 2024 + SALARY: $70,000/year The Consumer Information web page can be viewed at the following link http://www.farmingdale.edu/consumer-information/index.shtml This page describes various services, information and statistics on many different aspects of the College's operations.
